Safe disposal of paraffin

I've just been attempting to tidy/organise my loft (cue music from Steptoe & son). I discovered a 2 litre container of paraffin up there, decided to take it outside to store it more safely, and when I picked it up it was holed and the paraffin began to gush out.

I managed to transport the container outside without spilling much of it. Does anyone know how I can dispose of it safely?

take it to your local tip, waste disposal centre and ask them to take it off your hands.
same goes for car batteries, diesel, petrol etc.

Hi janstar - make sure you wash it of yourself or any carpets/floors etc. It's a carcinogen (you probably know that)
