Have at least one sales call on the phone every day. Pissed off with it.

The Telephone Preference Service

Takes about a month to kick in, but drastically reduces sales calls. Doesn't stop prerecorded ones from abroad though, unfortunately.

we are with them too as we were sick of getting sales calls after ive told "NO!!" about 20 times to the same company!!! (they dont listen at all) esp with SKY tv as this guy was trying to get me onto sky and for a whole week he were chasing after me , so in the end i stopped answering the phone till we registered with the telephone preference service.. teh next time the phone rang DP answered and the guy was trying it on again so DP asked their name, the co name and tel no and he said "We've registered with the telephone pre service and if you ring up once more, you get fined", the guy suddenly shitted himself and "oh, i am awfully sorry as we wont bother with you again and we will take your details off our list!"... never heard from them again!!

plus we are x-directory too but they must've of been getting our dets off the internet

Biglips · 07/11/2005 16:02

so at the end of the day if you had never authorised these sales calls for them to call you, then get their dets and report them - HA!

moondog · 07/11/2005 16:03

I second meggymoo.

mumfor1sttime · 07/11/2005 16:04

I have been leaving phone to ring, but then you think - why should I?!
I keep getting calls where nonone is there - it hangs up - think this is a machine.
Also had someone the other day from American Life - whoever they are - asking me if I want an insurance policy for ds incase he injures himself! Bloody ridiculous.

lol ! I've had a thread going for a few weeks as signed up to TPS at end of September and still get calls. seems it might take a couple of months before the marketing lists get renewed and our name disappears. We do get fewer already though, but those who do get through are pretty persistent.

mumfor1sttime · 07/11/2005 16:44

Thats not good! I suppose they will always find ways to get through, just be nice to not get a call every day.

On a positive note I haven't had any today -yet ! They often call when I'm doing the kids' tea.

Or just say "I'll get Mr Longwait" (or whatever made up name you want) and leave the receiver on the table for a while. That irritates them.

Satine · 07/11/2005 22:46

Or sometimes I give the receiver to my 18 month old - she loves to talk on the phone.

QueenVictoria · 07/11/2005 22:47

Please change your name back biglips!

I dont pick up the phone if i dont recognise the number.

Wordsmith · 07/11/2005 23:34

TPS, ex-D, and keep a loud whistle by the phone!

TPS does not apply for organisations that you have dealt with in the past and whose database you are on. I did some leafletting for Oxfam years ago and every year I get an unsolicited call from them bugging me to do it again., They always start with the phrase "We know you are registered with TPS but we are allowed to call you because..."

SueW · 07/11/2005 23:36

Something in the paper this weekend about how companies MUST reduce the number of silent calls they are making i.e. when you are auto-dialled by a computer but when you answer there is no operator available to take your call so you get the silent treatment and hang up.

The percentage of calls they must reduce this to is 3%.

In the Independent on Sunday I think but can't find it online.
