Has anyone been to a GUM clinic?

I'm a reg not a troll but just wondered if theyre really as grim and sordid as you'd imagine.
I haven't got any real symptoms but xh had an affair before we split up and ever since I've just worried that something could have been passsed on, I'd just like to be checked for the sake of peace of mind because you hear of so many symptomless diseases. I can't go to my gp as he's a family friend.
If I go to a clinic, will they pass results on to my gp anyway?

I have been with friends and sister although never for myself.
The one by us is jus tlike any normal hospital department if that makes sense. The staff who worked there were all lovely and made no judgements at all. I dont think they do pass results on to gp but not 100% sure.

I went to the one at St Mary's in Paddington and they definitely don't tell your GP. It was fine but they did ask me why I was there - not a druggy, not sleeping around, seemed to fox them a bit.

Thanx. That's what I'm worried about, that i'll stick out like a sor thumb. But it's been bothering me for ages, and I really want to be checked up. Do you have to give your real name?

You can give a fake name if you want to but just remember what you used not mickey or minnie mouse!. They will ask if they can tell you gp but you can say no and they wont.

Go get checked out, doesnt hurt anymore than the uncomfortableness of a smear.

Good luck

I've been to loads! I'd rather do that than a dentist...

Go - it will just be other people like you, promise.

Hmm, I like the thought of that happening to xh, and not being too gentle about it!
Thanx for all the responses.
