clothes for girls short for their age

My neice has asked me for clothes for Chrsitmas this year. She is quite a bit shorter than the average for her age and I wondered how people go about buying for their children in this situation. I don't want to buy her something in a size 9-10 when she is 11 as I think that might upset her. Or do you have ideas of shops to go to for this situation?

Hem the trousers?

Skirts shouldn't be a problem surely?

My niece is very short, I always used to hem her trousers

My DSs were both short for their age, at 13 and almost 12 they are catching up a bit now, but I just bought stuff in a size/age smaller. They never whinged about it feeling 'baby-ish' or anything.

Can you ask her mum what size she normally wears? If you buy her clothes in the size she normally wears she's not likely to get upset, I wouldn't have thought.

What about tops? I guess her mum could hemthe trousers - didn't think of that. I think age 11 skirts might fall down on her

really WWB? I just thought she might not like wearing something thatis age 9 when she is age 11. She gets quite upset about her height as she has experienced teasing at school - she's just started secondary school

If you're buying her the size she normally wears, why would she be upset? I would have thought she would be happier to have clothes that fitted her well, rather than clothes in the size she should be but that hang off her.

How about taking her out and trying some clothes on, so that you can see which sizes she fits? You could always go back and buy the ones you like later on, if you wanted them to be a complete surprise for her.

Vertbaudet's sizes are on the small side and they go up to age 16 (I think). Quite trendy too.
