Help - when is a line not a line on a pregnancy test? Panicking!

Oh god, I really do not want to be pregnant.

I'm on the pill - have taken it perfectly. I don't know why I did a test except that I feel a bit rough and have had an urge to bake cakes which in me only comes with pregnancy.

I should be an expert on pregnancy tests by now. I used a clear blue one which has a cross if positive. Where the positive line runs there is not a line, but like the edge of a line. It is so thin it doesn't look like other positive results I've had. I have to look very closely to see it.

The line has a colour to it but it is so very thin. Could it be an evaporation line? If I'm pregnant I will have to have a termination - I'm at a transitional point in my life.

Is the line a cross? or just one part of it/?

Im not familiar with that type of test can you post a picture?

changeagain · 09/04/2011 21:08

yes it's a cross - the line is so faint I don't think you could see it on a picture.

Did the line appear wihtin the test guidelines?

changeagain · 09/04/2011 21:10

Then a line or a cross is a psotive result

Do you have a second test to take tomorrow with FMU?

ShowOfHands · 09/04/2011 21:19

It's very rare to get a false positive. You need to be using certain medications for example. But if you were going to name a test that is known for its unreliability, the +/- would be it.

See here.

You need to test again. I know how frightened you must feel right now.

RancerDoo · 09/04/2011 21:22

Clearblue +/- tests are a nightmare. I called the hotline for this very reason (although was ttc) and was told that my line (very thin, along the left hand edge of where a thick line should be) was not a positive.
However, you need to get another test. There's no point speculating, get a first response and find out for sure.
Hope it goes your way.

changeagain · 09/04/2011 21:22

No I don't have another - I'll have to get one when I can I suppose. Oh god Sad My dp is abroad.

Oh you poor thing

You need to test again as soon as you can

First response are excellent IME

changeagain · 09/04/2011 21:25

Rancerdoo - that sounds encouraging. The line was like yours. Surely if I've taken my pills properly it's unlikely I'm pregnant anyway?

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Did you take another test?

BikeRunSki · 16/04/2011 23:26

This is why I always splash out on the fancy ones which tell you in words.

Good luck OP, hope you get the BFN you want next time.
