I need to get some new stuff for DS2 - have looked at Argos and Ikea, which both have contenders, but can anybody suggest anywhere else?

We need wardrobe (pref with some drawers), tall chest of drawers, bedside table and also maybe a small dressing table/desk. He seems to prefer lightish wood effect - IKEA's Malm range in oak veneer is favourite so far, price for the first 3 items (no desk) is £240 - anything similar but cheaper would be welcome!

Don't think you could go cheaper than that-bloody good price!

we've got a malm bed, in birch i think, & it's great. that's no help to you though!

Well, there are some really cheap packages in Argos (eg £140) but obv not as nice as IKEA ones - but we will have to go to IKEA

I like the birch too, hc! Too pale for DS apparently but if you want any matching bits there is some on ebay in your neck of the woods (I think) as we speak - here - wardrobe, chest and 2 bedside chests in Hackney!

If braving IKEA Jan,go on a Friday night-that's when it's quietest.

JanH · 27/10/2005 22:35

Really, moondog? Thanks for that - it would never have occurred to me!

Well everyone else is either getting pissed and/or gawping at the box.
Fail to understand why people use up precious w/ends for trips to the yawning time warping chasm that is IKEA..

I've never been on a weekend either - in fact haven't been at all for years and years, but when we went it would be on a weekday and even so it was always relatively heaving.

Have just discovered the stock availability check on the website too - very useful (assuming it's accurate!)

LOL MD! I'm not working Sundays any more (hooray hooray!) - DH said that to celebrate we should go to Ikea...

We'd not be able to go on a Friday evening as would be too late for DS after work - and there's no way only one of us would go - we love it there

We go early on weekends - seems less busy then. Especially in the run-up to Christmas when everyone else is fighting to get round shopping malls in search of the perfect gift set of smellies for Auntie Madge!

JanH · 27/10/2005 23:11

I don't do early, hunker

I was going to say that we do now we have DS...except for last Saturday when we all had a lie-in - DS had one worthy of a teenager... He slept from 8.45pm until 11.40am!!! Bless him, learning to walk has knackered him out - nobody's told him he's allowed to sit down sometimes

hoxtonchick · 28/10/2005 08:00

thanks jan. the kids & i love a trip to ikea, though not if we actually need to buy anything... dp won't go!
