We were due to go to Florida today to visit family and I have spent the last c ouple of months telling my 4 year old how wonderful it would be trick or treating there (not something we have done here). We had to cancel our holiday today due to the hurricane and went straight out to buy him a costume at the disney store as consolation. He really wants to go trick or treating still, but I cannot imagine knocking on any of my neighbours doors. We live in a large block with mostly young professionals in - no body is even around during the day. I am not far away from St John's Wood which has a large American community. What should I do? Just go to that area and hope? Any ideas anyone??? Or are there any events I could take him to????

Help!!!

Contact the American School and explain. They have a list of homes that welcome Trick or Treaters (I believe) and it is protocol to only knock at doors where there are obvious Halloween decorations. HTH

I know lots of local Americans, seeing one on Thurs. I'll ask her too. ASL might not want to give list out to stranger so might be able to get it for you or find out the usual practice.

Failing that, we live in Lewisham and trick or treating goes on between 7 and 7.30pm in our road. CAT me if you want ds to join dd (who will have turned 4 the day before haloween)on her annual 'spooky bubby' jaunt.

Thanks Slug, I appreciate it, but my little ones are in bed by 7! I think I may have found a party he can go to locally. Not quite the same as trick or treating, but he can dress up and also get treats so I think he will be happy!

What's the latest IlanaK? Do you want me to dig around for Yanks in St John's Wood with the right age children?

Thanks Davros - we are now going to a party instead so I think we are ok. Thanks for the offer though.
