Have brought a madeira cake form Asda yesterday (24) with the bb of (23). I know that it woudlnt kill me if i ate it apart from taking it back (this is not the first time this has happened on lots of products)and getting my money back what else can i do?

it'll be fine, and not illegal to sell (only illegal to sell after the sell by/eat by date, not best before).

I'd make a nice pot of tea to go with it.

Not sure you have any course of action other than taking it back. Definitely shouldn't have been on the shelves, or should have been on reduced price special due to bb date.

If this has happened to you before, I think you must simply check the date of things before you buy. Personally, I am an obsessive "date checker", and will often rummage around the shelf to make sure I've got the longest bb date available. I'm sure the shelf stackers hate me!

I wouldn't be able to eat it. As soon as the BB date has passed I convince myself it doesn't taste right! Even on the BB date I don't like to eat things just incase!

I'd be perfectly happy to eat an out of date cake (provided it's not a fresh cream one!)!

We ate out of date Fajitas yesterday and I am still here without a dodgy tummy

jellyjelly · 25/10/2005 09:28

I tried it and it tastes horrible. Will take it back.

see, I knew it would taste horrible I think its pyschological (sp?), just beacuse you know its out of date you can bring yourself to enjoy it! Thats how it works with me anyway.

jellyjelly · 25/10/2005 10:34

That will teahc me to go for the cheapie smart price (and before anyone attackes i know some tastes good)

Have to say find Asda very dodgy on this sort of thing. I bought a multi-pack of covered raisins. When I opened one of them I thought this tastes a bit funny - when I looked at the date it said Nov 2004 - and this was about 2 months ago . Dh took them back and was sent to get a replacement off shelf - surprise, surprise all others on shelf were exactly the same. He took them all back to customer services and got money back. Next week I went to get some more - they were all back on the shelf and stayed there for weeks .

Asdas products BB dates are always short. One of the things that puts me off going in there, but it is my local.

Its not just Asda, Ive had the same problem at Tesco.
