And no comments like 'another face' or 'a hitman' etc please, serious suggestions only (unless too funny to keep to yourself obv).

My mil has my girls 3 days a week and I want to spoil her....however, she has no hobbies, doesn't like pampering things and hardly goest out. Hmmmmmmmm.

She like trashy biogs about Lady Diana that I do know.

Ideas?

Well,I'd go for another trashy Diana jobby then. Lord knows, there's enough about to keep a reasonably competent reader busy for months...

madmummyof2 · 20/10/2005 15:35

dont they do trips to St James palace or something??

i couldnt stand my x mil so she always gto a pic of teh kids in a frame as it was simple.

Bozza · 20/10/2005 15:37

moondog.

Haven't decided for my MIL yet. Will probably ask what she wants. She usually will say "a top" because she can't think of anything else! My MIL likes plants for the garden but thats usually a birthday thing.

moondog · 20/10/2005 15:38

I don't follow your logic mm. I hate her, therefore she can have a picture of my kids....

Que????

OrribleOliveoil · 20/10/2005 15:42

lol at 'a top' I get that one as well!

Yes to Diana biog, I will have a mooch about in Waterstone's, there must be other ones along those lines as well.

I do the photo thing every year.

Do you check that they're on display olive?

I've got a friend who does this. What a cheek, assuming I want to see her dd gurning at me. I take it out and put one of my kids in.

(With family it's different obviously. I've no doubt that mine would be delighted to receive pictures of my offspring in perpetuity.)

tarantula · 20/10/2005 15:45

Nowt cos I dont have one. Well not to know anyway. Makes for a much easier life that does

Bozza · 20/10/2005 15:46

My MIL also likes a certain kind of novel so I often pick her a paperback up to go with the 'top'. Last year I got her a small but nice black leather handbag from Accessorize - £25. The year before I got her a chunky button through cardigan (sort of almost a jacket) from BHS. I think she likes that, she seems to wear it quite a lot - most of the other clothes I have ever bought her, she has worn the next time she has seen us and then never again.

OrribleOliveoil · 20/10/2005 15:53

I bought a black bag for her from M&S one year and the appropriate noises were made but the week later it was a different bag! Ha!

I have a double whammy - a stepmother in law!!! Actually, I love her to bits and she is fabulous! This year we are doing her a little hamper with fun things in like choccies, miniatures of Baileys, a jar of lemon curd (we're both obsessed with it), making it special to her!

HTH,

Jen x

albert · 20/10/2005 16:04

TBH nothing if I can help it. The only thing she ever bought me was a bra and knickers set for a 7 year old (I was about 28 at the time) and that was about 14 years ago! Oh, forgot, I also got a bag made from ring pulls one year WTF!!!

doormat · 20/10/2005 16:06

olive what about some nice cushions or throws

Bagpuss30 · 20/10/2005 16:07

Some sort of Molton Brown gift set probably.

crunchie · 20/10/2005 16:09

MIL are tricky, I like the idea of a day out, perhaps theatre tickets and a meal?

doormat · 20/10/2005 16:09

new bedding

PeachyClairPumpkinPie · 20/10/2005 16:13

A breast cancer support gardening set, coz we (dh included) don't want to waste money by giving her something as she'll not like it whatever, therefore a charity might as well benefit from her ignorance (from betterware).

notgood · 20/10/2005 16:14

perfume and a box of chocs

northerner · 20/10/2005 16:15

I have a MIL and a step mother in law. One usually gets a cook book of sorts and the other a crate of red wine which usually lasts her, oh, a couple of days.

Kidstrack2 · 20/10/2005 16:15

A pair or tweezers, I've recently noticed a few whiskers appearing on her face! lol
