Being old - I was shocked to see a piccy in this weekend's papers of primary children eating their school dinners from what looked like plastic plates with sections for each bit of food - has it really come to this?

They have them at dd's school, too - trays with a section for the cutlery and a section for the cup, they're much easier for the children to manage than separate items on a bigger tray. The meal is on one section, the pudding in another so it's not quite as bad as prison trays!

Me, I hate these too. Was horrified when I realised that's what my kids were eating off. Yuk.

what's wrong with a normal plate? children through the decades have managed perfectly well - they have proper plates at home too.

Call me old fashioned but I think they're absolutely awful!

when I were a lass - we had proper plates and glasses on table with jugs of water so you didn't have to carry a drink

At DS school they have jugs on the tables for year 6 to help younger ones

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 18/10/2005 20:25

Each table has a mixture of ages

Children through the decades have managed perfectly well to tip their food off their flat, slippery trays and over their shoes

My dd thinks that the trays are the bees knees, and who am I to argue?
