She's leaving soon to go to Sri Lanka to work on a Tsunami project for 6 months. We want to get her a lovely gift but are a bit stuck for ideas. Would like to get her something that would be useful whilst in Sri Lanka, but has to be small and easy to pack.

Thanks!

Lonely Planet guide to SR (I have it-very good)??

OrribleOliveoil · 26/10/2005 15:34

hmmmmmm, never been to Sri Lanka so not sure. What about a diary/journal type thing? I loved mine when I went travelling as you can write down thoughts etc (and I am sure she will have lots of those being there ) and also stick in mementoes like photos, tickets etc.

Funky sort of sarong? (lived in mine maaaaaaan)

Will try and think on, am supposed to be working doncha know, snort.

x

Something small and luxurious (as life certainly wont be that for the next few months!)
Stylish cosmetics?
Good moisturiser?

LadySherlockofLGJ · 26/10/2005 15:39

What is the budget ??

LadySherlockofLGJ · 26/10/2005 15:42

A wind up radio ??, my BF's partner bought her one(my suggestion) when she was in Bangladesh doing VSO.

She said finding the world service saved her sanity on more than one occassion.

Radio's all prices .

A little box of home comfort goodies that she can dip into when missing home - some chocs, a couple of magazines, walkers crisps, jar of marmite?

LadySherlockofLGJ · 26/10/2005 15:49

A mosquito net ??

Oh...... you have got me started now...

LadySherlockofLGJ · 26/10/2005 15:53

Water Sterlising tablets ??

One of those travel towels that does not absorb the atmosphere/humidty.

This is the best Mosquito repellent on the market

moondog · 26/10/2005 17:49

Never mind northerner's friend,I've made a note of your mosquito stuff LGJ!
They're very bad in this part of Turkey.
Children have suffered terribly this summer-waking up with bites on their noses, earlobes and between the fingers.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 26/10/2005 17:54

It is brilliant, I normally have a neon sign on my head that saysAll you can eat here for free

And I never ever and I mean ever get bitten when wearing that stuff.

I react very badly and 9 times out of 10 if I get bitten I end up on AntiBiotics. That stuff goes every where with me in the summer,I have two bottles on the go at any given time.

Sorry Hi-jack over.

very european toiletries: sets of soaps, shower gels etc. i've loved the smell of these when working in asia, as a break from so much 'otherplaceness'. also good to give onwards as gifts to people who put you up etc.
