If I were you, I'd write a very strongly worded letter to the Managing Director of ELC, with a copy to the store you dealt with.
Insist on them paying your bank charges and get them to do a letter of apology to your bank accepting their mistake, so you do not end up with bad credit history).
In your letter, state the cost of your travelling expenses and claim compensation for your inconvenience and the upset caused by incompetent staff.
