SIL and I want to go to a Spa next Saturday.

We were going to go to Spa 1877 at Sheffield as I know there have been a few MN meet ups there and everyone seems to enjoy it but, they are booked up

So can anyone reccomend somewhere else?
We were going to have the 3hr Spa Exp plus a hair cut for SIL and something extra for me (don't know what though)

I loved this place and have found no where to match it since moving South.

Nbg · 16/10/2005 16:54

That looks good. Very similar to 1877.

Thanks.

Had a 'day' at The Academy in Harrogate over Easter and found it okay. The spa upstairs is nice but it was a bit odd to come downstairs for what was basically a pub lunch in the bar attached to the leisure club bit. Treatments were good thou'.

Gomez · 16/10/2005 18:10

Ahh - just checked the link and it is the same place, ignore me.

Nbg · 16/10/2005 18:11

So is it good then?

Do you pay and go in to saunas and stuff like that and have treatments as extras?

We paid for a package at the Spa which included use of the pool/sauna etc, our treatments and a light lunch. The treatments were nice, as is the spa itself. Can't remember cost - around £150 maybe, think it was the relaxing package.

Is The Academy in the old Turkish baths or completely different place?

I don't know about the treatments but the Turkish baths in Harrogate are fantastic for atmosphere & serenity and the contrast between the 3 steam rooms and the freezing plunge pool is incredibly invigorating.

katzguk · 16/10/2005 19:53

is it worth phoning the spa1877 and asking them to let you know if they have a cancellation.

Gomez · 16/10/2005 19:56

Ahhh now I understand.

Academy is not the Turkish baths - but they have been 'done-up' and are apparently v. good.

Nbg · 16/10/2005 20:20

I did ring the Spa and she basically said that to get in at the weekend would require booking at least 2 weeks before!

A shame really as it would have worked out great for us.

So the Harrogate one doesn't have the saunas and stuff?

Nbg - The Turkish Baths in Harrogate have the steam rooms and stuff and they do treatments too. Click the link then there's a link on the left for prices/timetable/treatments.

There's really good eating places in Harrogate as well if you want to totally indulge yourself or make a real day of it.
