Think so... qs will prepare a bill of quantities that specifies all the stuff required IIRC (including the thickness of coats of paint) but 15 years since I had anything to do with this and memory is vague - there is at least one architect and think an engineer on MN who will know much better!

QueenOfQuotes · 01/10/2005 10:31

we've probably got all the contractors to build, wire, plumb, decorate and style it too

edam · 01/10/2005 10:33

at you building your own house btw. I'd love to do that... even have a subscription to Homebuilding and Renovating magazine but very little chance of doing it in near future.

zippitippitoes · 02/10/2005 19:34

How do i find one and what do i ask for, how much would i expect to pay for the advice...

we have a detailed spec drawn up by an architect and building regulations plans approvals

Hi zippi, a chartered surveyor worked out what we needed from the architect's plans for our extension. at you building your own house

zippitippitoes · 02/10/2005 19:46

It is really something which happened upon us..when we bought the house we thought the back yard could have potential as a building plot and we have managewd to get it..it is purely a way to try and make money.

It is a 2 bedroomed house (one bedroom in the roof space) and a ground floor bedroom and kitchen/living room

Hi, my dh is a building surveyor and he has said that the production of a schedule of materials and quanties is core qs work known as 'taking off'.

Contact the rics.org website (select find a surveyor - select specialism - quantity surveyor and search by area.

HTH

hi.. I just had a look myself and I have to admit it wasn't very obvious so had to get dh over. On the left hand side of the screen click on 'find a surveyor' then on that page click on 'online member list'. It will take you to a screen with area, specialism etc.

This should take you straight to the page you need. (sorry should have done that earlier)
