Odd question but I'm looking for a cemetery on a hill, with a great view from it.
Anyone know of one?
Cheers.

The cemetery at Whitstable (Kent) is a bit like this. It's up on a hill, with a view over to the sea.

Plymouth - it has a lovely view. It's where my mother is.

The cemetery on the Great Orme in Llandudno is beautiful and overlooks the sea.

The one at J6 of the M6 overlooks an industrial landscape and the M6 but is evocative in it's own way.

why?

CuppaTeaJanice · 22/12/2010 15:47

Playden, near Rye, East Sussex

PortlyBlackSantaUpAChimney · 22/12/2010 15:49

Carlton Cemetery has a wonderful view.

It's in the valley, but it's on a hill, IYSWIM, and you can see for miles on a clear day.

nickeldonkeybethlehemsinsight · 22/12/2010 16:02

(sorry, that's CArlton, Nottingham)

St Leonards church and cemetery in Saltwood, Kent is on a steep hill looking out towards the English Channel.

SilkStalkings · 22/12/2010 17:19

Brilliant, thanks. Have an urge to visit such a place next summer for some reason, maybe take a picnic. Is that wrong?

I would say it is a 'grave' outlook though.

PortlyBlackSantaUpAChimney · 22/12/2010 17:26

Not at all Silk - i am a frequent cemetery picnicker...

They are peaceful and beautiful and often have lots of wildlife in them too.

My family know if they lose me they can find me in the bone yard Grin

Whitby - there is an amazing old church and churchyard on the cliff top by the abbey ruins. Fascinating but a bit spooky!

marriedandlookingforcake · 22/12/2010 17:33

Barnoon Cemetery, St Ives, Cornwall - beautiful sea view

PortlyBlackSantaUpAChimney · 22/12/2010 17:33

There is one in Teignmouth (Devon) on the road in from the A38 as you come down the hill you see it, it overlooks the sea, I always think that's a nice spot.

SilkStalkings · 22/12/2010 17:52

House of Bones at St Leonards in Hythe (not Saltwood, opps Blush) if you feel the urge for a gruesome day out. Wink

BerryinClover · 22/12/2010 17:57

Cemetery on a hill with a city view: Undercliffe, Bradford. It's famous for lots of wool barons' elaborate tombs.

Chaotica · 22/12/2010 18:01

I was going to suggest Undercliffe in Bradford too. A fine place for a day out.

Also, Nunhead in London is interesting too.

eatyourveg · 22/12/2010 18:08

The cemetery surrounding Capel Llandecwyn in snowdonia. Amazing!
