Any ideas much appreciated!!! My DD will be 3 on Sunday. We have a great garden and lots of things to do in it. If it rains though I've got very little for them to do in the house and we justdecorated the living room - sill thing to do I know! I could get away with pass the parcel but for about 10 mins! There will be 12 of them and 8 boys - 2 of them 4 yrs old. HELP!!!!

hAVE STRICT RULES about where they can go. Be bossy - are the parents going away? Much easier to be the boss then

  • tell dd before and hide all precious toys.

my dd went to a party where they all decorated party hats. kept them busy for relatively ages (a good 30 mins) and was very clean because involved stickers and crayons, not glue and things. the mother just cut out simple crown shapes from white card, they scribbled and stuck things all over them and then wore them the rest of the time.
thought that was a good rainy day activity, and in the party spirit a bit more than sitting them down with playdough (although that is a good one too)

Fab ideas - thankyou so much - keep em coming!! Should be able to fill the time up to 2 hours! Some parents staying, others going, yes it is easier if they go I think!!

What's rain?

Bogwoppit · 27/08/2003 21:05

borrow a gazebo for some shelter?
I had ballons to decorate for my DS. got them from smiths. they have sticky eyes, mouths & noses then attach card feet to the balloon.

I just prayed for good weather & it was scorching! needed more shade.

perhaps you could get kids to do a sundance

Oh, quackers, I was going to say I hoped you only had them for 1½ hours and then saw the last message! Good that you have some girls though.

Do you have a dining room too? Last time we had a littlies party (older than 3!) we cleared the dining room, crammed the table into the kitchen, played lots of games in the empty dining room (musical variations, pass the parcel, dead lions etc), then fed them on the dining room floor, with paper tablecloths, and lots of relightable candles on the cake for endless blowing out, and finally allowed them into our far from pristine living room for a video. (We don't have a garden.)

Good luck. Hope the weather's good. Anyway the relief when they all go home will be immense!

Hi quackers, I've just looked up where I think you live on various weather sites and there's no rain forecast for Sunday at the moment! Hope the forecasters are right but if not, there are some good ideas here.

quackers · 28/08/2003 08:48

Thanks all, you're all great,
HD, you're a star as always!
Yes we'll clear the dining room and let them eat on the floor, then they can make balloon faces, crowns and fish!! Pass the parcel and bobs your uncle! Watch me buy all this stuff now and it be sunny!!

quackers, how did it go?

quackers · 01/09/2003 09:06

Oh HD, bless u - thankyou for remembering, it means alot!!
Well it was lovely, really nice weather. We borrowed a bouncy castle and they had such a great time. I was really chuffed and my dd had a great day. Did pass the parcel and that worked!!
There was a heavily pg woman there and I didn't know as she was a little girl from nursery's mummy. I found it really hard to talk to her, but had to do it or I would have looked rude. I was brave and did it. Just find it tough esp as I have had some more probs bleeding again yesterday - great timing I know. Seems a litttle better today so will hold off to see Doc until my appointment Thurs. Sorry if this gets repeated at all today elswhere HD. I Just can't talk about it as I can on Mumsnet, everyone understands!!!
Hope you;re doing ok chuck - sending good vibes to you!!!!, will catch up I presume, elsewhere too!!! LOLxxxxx

Glad it went well quackers, and that your dd enjoyed it. Sorry to hear about your other problems though, thinking of you...
