Hoping for advice on a stack of money they say we owe them.
When we came to live in France I phoned the Tax Credits Helpline to tell them, at first the lady said that our payments would stop, but then she had a word with her supervisor to say that we would still get payments unless one of us found work.
Anyway, when I did find work, I forgot to tell them until about the following month, but even so they paid us until April. Then we got a ltr saying we owed them 2,500. I wrote a ltr telling them what I had been told on the telephone and sending them evidence of my work contract etc. We knew we owed them as they hadn't stopped paying us, but were shocked by the amount. We got one ltr thanking us for our correspondance, we've heard nothing since and this was 5 months ago now.
We got a ltr the other wk saying that we owe them nothing for this year and nothing for previous years. Today ltr arrives saying we owe 1576.00. Which amount should we pay? What's going on at all?
