Bizarre but mine do. They go in the morning smelling of clean washing -er..well usually- and come home smelling of school! Hair and clothes. Just wondered if anyone else notices it??

Haven't got school age children, but I loathe the smell of lunchboxes.

I haven't noticed it yet, but dd's only been in Reception for two weeks, and only afternoons.

She used to come home smelling of pre-school though - a sort of school dinnery smell but not quite so bad as school dinners. I opened up one of her old folders the other day and the smell of the place hit me.

zaphod · 23/09/2005 21:34

Yes, thankfully I like the way their school smells.

spidermama · 23/09/2005 21:34

Stress hormones they're sweating there.

spidermama · 23/09/2005 21:35

Do they have school dinners? I would probably be able to detect the smell of school dinners on them. NOT in a good way.

WigWamBam · 23/09/2005 21:37

It wouldn't have been stress hormones on dd; she loved the place and she loves school. More likely to have been the smell of school dinner carrots and cabbage.

dd is 3.75 and goes to nursery 3 days, always smells funny when she comes home. when she was a baby, she went to childminder who wore alot of makeup. every night i used to wipe her head with a wet wipe before bathtime and it was covered in foundation, yuk!

Mytwopenceworth · 23/09/2005 22:01

Yes!! Thought it was just me!! Mine always smell funny when they get back from school. They don't smell of anything identifyable, just a smell that isn't 'my baby' iyswim.

Following on from that - does anyone else just sniff their kids? I do, I used to do it loads when they were babies, just sit there sniffing them - when they were newborns I also used to lick their foreheads - no idea why, just felt a total compulsion to lick them!

Anyone else do that, or even know why I did, or is it just really weird?

lucykate · 23/09/2005 22:03

lol - mtpw!

sniffing my baby ds's head is glorious, dh is always telling me to stop it though

Mytwopenceworth · 23/09/2005 22:08

Ahhhhhhhhh, baby sniffing. They should prescribe it on the NHS.

I miss baby sniffing. A wriggling 6 yr old who wants to punch you away takes the fun out of it!!!
