Is anyone other than me and dp sad enough to watch this? If you are, you will know that Saturday night is a Bee Gees night and the "victims" have to sing a Bee Gees song. So why from the preview tonight on BBC3, is James singing 'why does it always rain on me?'
Dp and I have searched on the net to see who wrote it, he swears that it's a Travis original, can anyone shed any light on this or are we the only sad ones?

how could you even possibley think that a bee gee write such a lovely song!... it was written by the none other than lovely Fran Healy.... singer from travis... i'm finding Fame Academy not as compelling as last series... (who can forget lovely Ainslie!) maybe i haven't watched it enough yet!... but the inclusion of a bee gee on the panel is horribley sycophantic, as bee gees have always been a little up their own a*s anyway! and to hear of a whole ep dedicated to bee gee songs yick yick yick!... may as well call it bee gee academy!!!

oh dear bee gee rant over!

maybe it will improve over the next few weeks... we can but hope!

No idea about the trailer. I've found this series rather more dull. Partly because the overall standard seems lower and, perhaps because the shows are closer together, it is hard to see any real progress in the participants. Last Wednesday nights show was just so cringe making - how puerile were the heckling and Richard Park's sparring with the compere. I'm one who doesn't really enjoy these things until it gets down to the last handful, but so far I doubt any will really make it. At the end of the day what is the point of the teachers backing people like Louise if they obviously have n't got the public support - who is going to buy her records ?

Oh dear sound a bit hooked after all....

Must admit I quite enjoyed this last time around but can anyone explain (or maybe I'm missing something) why has the entire format changed.

Last year we saw so much more of the behind the scenes "at the academy" footage and a grand big Sat night show. All we seem to see now is the comic relief set !?!?!

misdee · 23/08/2003 21:02

its worse than last year, i think pete is awful, just trying to be too ainsley like for my taste. so far none of them have mad me think wow!!

but pop idol is keeping me laughing every saturday night.

I really don't like Paris, or Alex - just don't like their voices. I quite like Carolynne and Louise. And it really winds me up the way Patrick Kielty and Richard Park go on - I really don't care what PK thinks about RP's thoughts - would rather just hear RP's comments, rather than an argument with every contestant. I think the standard's really poor, and am enjoying Pop Idol much more!

Didm't mind the bee gees set as ds2 was born to a bee gees song (although can't remember which).

misdee · 23/08/2003 21:14

jimjams you are meant to remember which song .
i remember stealing my ex-dh copy of maxim and the midwife commenting on the naked ladies in it. very worrying.

I just can?t believe how awful the staff are - Carrie is like the Mystic Meg of the music world - ie. a total fake. Just the fact that she refused to recognise that Simone sang sharp for (almost) her entire performance tonight is just beyond me, along with other just silly statements from all of them. Only Mr Gibbs seems to be giving a reasonably sound assessment of performances and he too was rather uninspiringly average tonight...why oh why do I waste my time watching this dribble?!!
I agree with misdee - pop idol is much more entertaining - tonight had both DH and I in total stitches they were so funny and far more honest. Tricky situation with the blind girl - must be hard trying to balance honesty while also taking into account equal opportunities, political correctness and downright decency. Mind you, they had no problem talking openly about the larger girl?s weight and how image was everything...ok to be upfront about how fattist the public is but not quite liberal enough to talk about how prejudiced the public is about physical disabilities workign in the media.

Girly · 23/08/2003 21:26

Simone sang at a family party we had last year, with 2 of her sisters, She does have a good voice and i think she just needs some good training. I think she could do well with the right backing

misdee · 23/08/2003 21:35

the larger girl on pop idol had a fantastic voice, was only 23 and had 3 kids!! what a woman!! i wanna be like her (but with just 2 kids lol)

Jimjams · 23/08/2003 21:45

Wasn't our choice though misdee- c-sections both of them. Ds1 was the radio (so at least he wasn't born to a naff presenter) and ds2 was a tape. Now of I could choose........
