we're supposed to meet up with people we don't know at I think gypsy gate. Part of the campaign to have fun with kids and be a good mummy. I can't face public transport this time!.

If the restrictions are like the rest of Highgate they only apply until midday.I think you should be able to park in Church Rd/Talbot Rd etc and then just cross Archway Rd.The (vegie) cafe in Highgate Woods used to do great food but I haven't been for years.

you'll be lucky
although the Controlled parking zone should finsih at 6.30, IIRC

have a lovley time, I used to love Highgate Woods, espcially the little wildlife hut

majorstress · 21/09/2005 13:13

yes that's what I wonder about the CPZ (controlled parking zone) for HAringey, anyone have any other up-to-date info or a good website? Council one sn;t specific enough as far as I can see about where and when it applies. If I can;t park before 6:30, we can;t go.

although I left last year, I remember it being 6.30.
Which direction are you coming from?

majorstress · 21/09/2005 13:18

from the north, on the A1 I guess.

Majorstress - you really do need to move to Manchester - in the stylee of Jim Royle
'controlled parking zone my arse!!' We don't have those up here(much) they don't let us northerners drive CARS!!!

Just joking of course - has dh decided to stay put?

majorstress · 21/09/2005 13:29

ha ha ha. ha! everything is SUCH a hassle in London. maybe we'll just slump in front of the telly, and squabble instead. Again. he's kind of gone off the wee north job (not the north per se though) and now fantasizing about the new job he might get if he stays. he's delighted I have had to stop working fulltime because of all our problems. I don;t know waht to do.

I agree that people shouldn't drive if they don;t have to, but it will take us over an hour each way and hurt my back struggling with the 2 kids, or 15 minutes by car.

I know you've had horrendous nanny problems - how's part time going? or have you given up completely?

Public transport drives me up the wall too - and it's pretty good round here! so the car IS much easier.

Hope you get yourself sorted - it's a lovely day for a walk in the park, collecting conkers and all that - took dd2 this morning and she was determined to eat an acorn 'like the skirrels do mummy.....'

reddevil · 21/09/2005 13:44

I've just phoned Haringey-can you tell I should be doing laundry!CPZ around Highgate station lasts till 12.30(midday) apart from Priory Gardens which is until 6.30.
HTH

MarsLady · 21/09/2005 13:49

you should be fine at 6. Try Onslow Gardens or any of the roads really. I don't think there'll be a problem.

MarsLady · 21/09/2005 13:51

just read that you are coming from the other side. If you do come round onto Muswell Hill Road, you should find parking on one of the side streets.

majorstress · 21/09/2005 14:04

I am SO touched! I too could have phoned Haringey, duh! This is my first day at home, officially as a SAHM (part time). It is such a beautiful day, I almost can't wiat until school is out, because dd1 (and 2) will be surprised to go somewhere nice and differnet, and meet some otehr kids who like nature going out with their parents. I;m just going to give them their main meal instead of the usual snack straight after school and then off we go. dd2 is awake now so I'm back on duty!

so far so good on the part time-trying not to panic becuase the ethos at my workplace is, I should fit all the missed work into the time I AM there. No one else will do it, I will jsut fall even furhter behind now. I can;t and I won;t and they can;t make me, but the feeling is still strong.

THANKS ALL, what a great resource MN is when all is said and done. I am looking at the man in the moon, seeing on the calendar that this was the last day of summer officially, and feeling triumphant. For once I relaxed about getting there, we made it in plenty of time with no shouting or rushing, no one complained of hunger or thirst, found it easily and parked easily in talbot rd, though felt a bit of a fraud meeting up with an "eco" scout-like group who arrived mainly by bus. But the car IS a Prius, does that help? It is a lovely place, with a super playground, TOILET (best bit) and lots of nice mummies and daddies around anyway, and group was ok though on average too old for my dds, who turned a bit too shy too join in, trying to force me to play instead games that are not good for a slipped disc, I can attest-I ran around more than any other mother there-and I really shouldn't-(Hello dds? this is why I have found you 15 KIDS to play with, girls); as always my toddler was "THE BABY", treated as a pet not a participant which she is more than capable if anyone would pay attention to what she is saying. Even the 5 year old was patronised a bit by some 6 yr old girls! Probably would have had more fun playing on our own tbh, but it's a start to have something to do when it's dark after school and not so nice outside as today, so I hope that some of the faces will get more familiar. I thought of just going to regular brownie stuff locally but that would involve yet more exposure to the same pain-in-bm kids we see every day, who I have had enough of, and nothing for 2.5 year old to do except cry that she couldn't go for the next 3 years-sod that. I want different pain-in-bms (and some were right little horrors), just for variety.
