what online sites for novice internet newbie?

have a friend whos just come online....and is very nervous about it, LOL, wanted to give her a list/little homemade book of good sites to encourage her further, but finding lots of mine are very 'me' -arty stuff when shes not really, parenting stuff when she a nanny rather than a mum etc. Of course already put here on the list
can you think of any good general sites a new girl on the web might need/like?
