Is it complicated to drive to Bristol?

I'm in the midlands - I have a sat nav.

Straight down the M5 isn't it? East or West Midlands?

GrimmaTheNome · 19/10/2010 16:54

Depends where in the midlands and where in Bristol. The M5 is easy but avoid m6/m5 interchange (or other such round birmingham) at busy times.

mnistooaddictive · 19/10/2010 16:55

Easy. Where do you want to go?

WhatsThatDuckDoingThere · 19/10/2010 16:55

Not complicated at all!

What a strange question Grin

M32 goes right into the centre of town. Use your satnav but beware that it may lead you down the cycle path, depending on where you're trying to get to.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 19/10/2010 16:56

If you're going into the city, M5/M4/M32 takes you to Cabot Circus - otherwise M5/M4 depending on where you're going.

< only goes to Cabot, Cribbs Causeway and Ikea >

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/10/2010 17:02

Just go south. Down the M5, follow signs for M32, it will take you in M4 for one junction, just follow the motorway until it stops (that will take you to Cabot Circus).

I've got to go to the airport to pick up a friend later.

My dad has just told me 'I bet you £100 you'll go wrong' (kind soul that he is Hmm)

Surely if I have a sat nav I'll be ok?

OP posts:
WhatsThatDuckDoingThere · 19/10/2010 17:05

The airport is out of town, so use your sat nav and come off the M5 when you get past Bristol.

strandeadatsea · 19/10/2010 17:10

people have been known to disappear for days trying to find bristol airport. give yourself a bit of extra time to get there...

electra · 19/10/2010 17:16

seriously? Sad why is it so difficult to find? I'm panicking now. I've used the sat nav for loads of other unknown places before with no problems.

OP posts:
electra · 19/10/2010 17:17

Perhaps if I get lost I could ask him to get a taxi into the town centre and collect him from there if it's easier?

OP posts:
strandeadatsea · 19/10/2010 17:21

Oh sorry didn't mean to worry you! I am sure if you have a sat nav you will be fine - perhaps get written directions as a back up. I just know it's not in an obvious place and apparently not well signposted.

WhatsThatDuckDoingThere · 19/10/2010 17:22

Use your sat nav! It will take you straight there. Stop worrying. You needn't go into Bristol at all to get to the airport.

electra · 19/10/2010 17:23

How far is it from Bristol town centre? Presumably Bristol itself is not hard to find?

OP posts:
Iamcountingto3 · 19/10/2010 17:25

LOL - that's what sat navs are for! Look it up and print out a map (in case there's something odd on the ground) and take the airport phone number for general enquiries. And you'll be FINE! I travel around the country to wierd places all the time. If you get lost, the worst thing that happens is.... you're a bit late.....

strandeadatsea · 19/10/2010 17:25

electra - you have made my day!

Just make sure you don't take the wrong turning and end up in Wales!!!

electra · 19/10/2010 17:26

Ok whatsthat - I hope it will. Thanks for your replies.

OP posts:
WhatsThatDuckDoingThere · 19/10/2010 17:27

The airport is about six miles out of bristol at a guess? going south west.

Instruction here

electra · 19/10/2010 17:29

why have I made your day?? Thanks for that helpful reply are you sure you're not my dad? I get nervous about driving and I had a couple of unpleasant incidents where my sat nav stopped working and I did end up lost and it shook my confidence. I don't need extra negativity thanks.

electra · 19/10/2010 17:30

Thank you Whatsthatduck Smile

If you end up in Wales drop by for coffee, we're only just in Wink

Airport is offn the A38, just past Bristol. Really not hard.

strandeadatsea · 19/10/2010 17:52

electra - I'm sorry, you said "presumably Bristol itself is not too hard to find". It's err quite a large city and not that easy to miss.

However if it makes you feel better I am totally crap at directions and will often wander around for hours because I am holding a map the wrong way up.

And don't rely on the sat nav - get written directions, that way you won't panic if the sat nav breaks down.

(ok note to self don't be rude about other people's ability not to find large cities when I am often to be found driving round in circles even in towns I know very well)

electra · 19/10/2010 18:29

Ah right - I think I've misunderstood what you meant. I know I do sound neurotic but I hate getting lost when I'm alone.

OP posts:
DoraBelvedon · 19/10/2010 18:32

my theory is hat if you drive for long enough you will eventually hit a motorway with big signposts.

admittedly it often takes me a while to get to whee i'm supposed to be going but i usually get there eventually.

ScaryMoaningArrrggghhhs · 19/10/2010 18:39

I managed to do Bath - Bridgwater via Southampton one night
