donating baby equipment to overseas charity

Hi, I would like to give my old baby equipment (prams/ cot/clothes/toys etc etc) directly to children / people who need it, rather than sell it in the UK and give the money to charity, or to a charity in the UK. I am thinking of an orphanage / childrens home type place such as you see on TV, in Africa.
Has anyone done this or knows of a charity that could link me to somewhere that could use the baby stuff.
I know its wierd, but my baby stuff is really precious to me and I want to know exactly where it is going to.
thanks for your advice! :)

I think it's a nice idea but totally impractical. There are lots of places in the UK who would be despreately grateful of your things. Have you tried calling Womens Aid? Or a crisis pregnancy centre? They would bite your arm off for your things

I was going to suggest a crisis pregnancy centre too. That's where some of my stuff went. My city also has a charity called Somebody Cares who give furniture, toys, clothes, TVs etc to family and people struggling with finances. Maybe there's a similar charity in your area.

I've just donated a whole heap of baby clothes, baby bedding, pram, bouncinette and maternity clothes to the Refugee Council. They are desperate for maternity clothes and prams and it's helping people who really have nothing. There are several offices across England in Brixton, Hounslow, Birmingham, Ipswich and Leeds. They offered to come and pick up the stuff I was donating but I live close by so it was easy to deliver. Their head office number is 0207 346 6700 and their website tells you of other refugee charities which might be more convenient for people who don't live near the Refugee Council offices. It took me ages searching the web to find charities who might want used baby/maternity/children's clothes and equipment. I wish there was a central depot/charity that took all donations. I used to end up giving stuff to Bernados but people have to pay to buy it and I want those who need this stuff to have it for free.
