Christmas...have you thought about it yet? I can't bear the thought of it. I love Christmas itself but seeing all those people queueing to get into Waitrose car park to spend hundreds of pounds sticks in the gullet. even though I'm one of them . How do you do it and a) keep sane b) keep your conscience in tact?

I buy throughout the year and put everything in a big box under the bed.

crazydazy · 10/09/2005 19:47

We just do everything the week before!!! We are so unorganised its untrue!!! DP stayed up until 4 in the morning last xmas eve building DS's train and putting together his Black and Decker workshop bless him!!! Was worth it when DS walked in and saw it though he just didn't know what to play with first.

I think that sums Xmas up for us though, seeing their little faces on Xmas morning!!!

Can't wait I am going to sunny Zambia for four weeks. I never want to be one who gets stressed over the funnest day of the year (is this english?). This is easy to say as i only have one DD who is 1.3.

bonkerz · 10/09/2005 19:52

Jimjams · 10/09/2005 19:54

loathe xmas. will be doing best to ignore it.

Heathcliffscathy · 10/09/2005 19:55

[said in harry enfield character way] oi, hatstand, christmas....nooooooo!

why why why why why why why does september hail the advent of all things of the christmassy nature.

i have a deep mistrust of anyone that does their xmas shopping in a month not called december!!!

hatstand · 10/09/2005 20:02

christmas is like a microcosm of all the internal dilemmas I have in my character. I hate it and I love it. I want everything to be perfact and I want not to care. I want to lavish hospitality on my entire family and by about 3 in the afternoon I want them all to f off home. I want my kids to experience the unbelieveable joy and magic and excitement I got but I don;t want to spoil them and indulge them in a meaningless festival. I want to give all the money to charity and spend it on fantastic pressies. I can;t cope with Christmas. It does my head in.

I'd better get the bucket of ice ready - soon people are going to start saying "bet ds1 is really looking forward to xmas isn't he" trouble is won't know whether to dunk their head or mine.

basketcase · 10/09/2005 20:17

Yesterday I was told (not asked) that my pils are spending Christmas (again) with us Last year was awful - children had a pleasant time, DH had a lovely time, I spent it as a stressed out skivvy. They are the type to sit and do nothing other than order cups of tea and criticise ("offer advice"). They will totally ruin the magic of it all for me and hijack my kids - I am totally and utterly dreading it. They only visit once a year so have no room to complain - my parents live round the corner so apparently it is unreasonable to moan about their occasional visits....They are also heavy smokers so will have a freezing cold house as they leave back door open all day so they can smoke with their body inside and arm/mouth outside in their tiny concession to my insistence they smoke outside. Great. Cold and smoky home
Gonna leave this thread before I get really depressed about Christmas!

So soph, this is not the time to mention that I bought all my 'child presents' (not for my two, but all the other kids I buy for) in the Woolies toy sale in July?
OK, won't mention that they are all stashed on top of the wardrobes, ready for wrapping...

starshaker · 10/09/2005 22:37
