Could I go and queue for a day to get it there and then?

I sent off for DD's passport with check and send and got it back within a week

This was around 4 weeks ago

Howveer, the blurb says it can take up to 6 weeks so if you want to be sure, then you should go to an office

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/10/2010 18:13

I think the post office do a 1 week 'check and send'. It costs a little more but you do get it v.quickly.

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 08/10/2010 18:19

You can't go & queue for a day I'm afraid, I know, I lost a holiday 2 years ago for this very reason Sad although I only realized about the passport 36 hours before the flight [numbskull emoticon Grin]. Unless of course this isn't your dcs first passports? It's only first passports that require at least 6 weeks (although as other posters say it doesn't necessarily take that long).

This will be his first passport. A friend has said I can ring up and say he is going away and needs it but I haven't applied for a passport for over 10 years and assume things have changed. Maybe a trip to the post office is in order in the morning.

I would get on the passport website now and see what the options are for him. you might be able to get an appointment at a passport office.

phipps · 08/10/2010 18:30

Our nearest office is London. I am confused why the site is saying go to the office when it isn't a case of queue and get a passport.

if you make an appt you can get the passport back within a week

costs twice as much though!

claricebeansmum · 08/10/2010 18:31

You make an appointment - call them up now.

phipps · 08/10/2010 18:31

How much is twice as much?

DH has phoned and got all the info, thank you for the links.

DH is now saying his gut feeling is not to let DS go abroad but we will talk some more.
