So proud of DH, he caught a bat that was in the house last night

I first saw it flying round the kitchen and retreated back in the living room with a squeal. DH came into the kitchen and opened the outside doors and then he spent nearly an hour looking for it and couldn't find it.

He went upstairs to put DS 10 to bed and found it upstairs flying round DD 6's bedroom. She was fast asleep and he was trying desperately not to wake her up. She did wake up and DH told her "don't worry darling there's just a little birdy in your room" and she went back to sleep again whilst he whirled around the room with these two tiny fishing nets trying to catch the ruddy thing.

He caught it in the end and we took it outside.

I would like to award him the brave DH of the month award.

where on earth did he magic two tiny fishing nets from? We havent even got a fly swatter

Flossam · 09/09/2005 09:26

I actually like bats. Not sure I'd want one in my house though!

SecondhandRose · 09/09/2005 10:08

cod, you got me yet again. We had two of those little nets you get for the kids to take to the seaside. I know you're not supposed to kill bats but it didn't survive when DH kept swiping it. It looked so big flying about but so tiny in the net with it's wings folded.

im not being funny but dont you have to inform 'someone' that you killed a bat? it is illegal you know

compo · 09/09/2005 10:46

blimey, who are you meant to inform? It was quite clearly an accident!

compo · 09/09/2005 10:46

the police? lol

swiperfox · 09/09/2005 10:47

yep you have to tell but can't remember who!

mears · 09/09/2005 10:49

Bats are a protected species and you are not allowed to remove them from your home is they are there. We have bats in appearing at the hospital and there is nothing we can do about them. If there was one there are probably others. possibly in the loft, which would be the worry.

Say nothing...

Can I get an award too??
When I was around 7 months pregnant with dd, my dh was away on business. I awoke in the middle of the night disturbed by my cat who was sitting on the window ledge chirruping at something. I saw a shadow of something large clinging to the top of the curtain. A bat. I got up, closed the bedroom door (didn't want it flying through the house waking ds) - and then stupidly switched on the light. The terrified creature then started flying very fast all round the bedroom. Because it couldn't see it would fly straight at me then swoop away just before it made contact. It was quite scary! I managed to open up the velux window as wide as possible and by some fluke it finally flew outside.
How about that?

SecondhandRose · 09/09/2005 11:09

No, we didn't really kill a bat, it was all made up, a tissue of lies. Oops.
