well ok I helped him. And it wasn't a very 'exciting' story - but it was the book he brought home from school today in his book bag called "I like rice". Each page basically said "I like rice with......."

He pointed at all the words and said them, although admittedly the ...... bit at the end had a nice easy picture to show what it was but I'm still

What a moment when your child reads! My DD has just started Yr2 and she always has her head in a book. She likes reading to DS who is nearly 4 so they sit in bed and cuddle up together!

I think that moment of him 'reading' the book himself hit me much more than him starting school or nursery.

Amazing.

And just to test him (I'm not really a pushy mother honestly LOL) when we got upstairs I grabbed a book off the shelf and found one that had the word "I" in it - he recognised it and said it. And 'nearly' got "with" - worked out the "W" and the "th" but couldn't get them together.

STill early days, but SOOOO exciting to think that he'll soon be able to read things for himself

It amazes me how children learn to read. We take it for granted because we can already do it but watching daily progress of a child reading is fantastic.
