Not me (I wish LOL).

Just wondering as I've just today managed to (finally) track down some friends that we made in Zimbabwe. They were British (very ) living out there, he was a Lieutenant (or similar rank) in the Army and she's a professional singer. We lost contact when they moved back to the UK a few months before us, when we lost their address in our move

Anyhow, discovered they've moved to Thursley Road in Elstead and her 2nd question (after asking how DH and I were) was "when can you come down and see us" - just wanted to know how posh the houses down there were.....

Found "one" house in the same postcode as their that sold for £1 million last year

Is it really really posh - or just a bit???

Also it's not actually "in" Elstead, it appears to be outside of the village probably a good 2 miles out

QueenOfQuotes getting a shocking feeling that they're now living in some ludcriously large house that the boys will adore trashing **

dd (12) met a boy at a school dance who lived in Thursley Road. When she rang him once she was told he was out boating on the lake in the grounds. Another time she said it sounded like a butler answering the phone who said he wasn't sure if X was in his 'rooms'! Then she was told not to bother phoning any more! We drove past his 'estate' one day and it was HUUUGGGE!

shakes in shoes*

They're a lovely couple - came to our wedding, and I used to accompany her in concerts in Zim, but we've got some rather embarassing stories to tell with them too.

They lived in a really posh (paid for by the DH's company) house in a lovely part of Harare (Zim capital). They invited us over to a dinner party one night along with some of their other friends. We got there, went to turn down into their drive (quite a steep hill into it) and the brakes on our (borrowed) car failed and we went straight into their brick gate post

So of course that blocked their driveway up - so none of the other guests (in their very posh, OWN cars couldn't get in). Their guard had to sit on a chair out in the road to keep an eye on them during the dinner party

THEN if that wasn't bad enough, we got into the house, feeling rather embarassed (and shocked) and down for dinner. We went to raise our glasses to say cheers, I tapped mine (and it really was only a tap) on the edge of a bowl on the table and the stem fell off - they were really lovely crystal ones too.

Amazingly they still invited us to their leaving do - and still would like us to visit them in Elstead LOL.

awww that's horrible!!! I can't stand people who get/earn/work hard for/whatever lots of money and think they're somehow above everyone else afterwards.

oohhhh I'd accept the invite q of q - if only cos I'm so nosy and love to see how other people live!!!

QueenOfQuotes · 04/09/2005 00:36

ooooo yes of course - but I'm just trying to gauge roughtly how posh it's going to be - don't want to faint when I get there LOL

With the help of 192.com and ourproperty.co.uk I've already discovered that they made a very substantail amount on the house they sold in Cambridge - and I know he was a bursar at an Independent School in Cambridge for 4yrs - and I know he's now working at King Edwards School down that way, also I think as a bursar - so I should imagine they could afford a pretty big mortgage

I know of King Ed's school in Witley - it's not the poshest of schools locally (not like Charterhouse). But Thursley Road we are talking 'estates' and 'lakes in the grounds' and 'bluebell woods' and 'butlers'!!!!! Be Warned!

QueenOfQuotes · 04/09/2005 00:44

ooooo - I think I'll have to find out how much petrol would cost down there - and persaude DH to se t the money aside so we can visit in October

QueenOfQuotes · 04/09/2005 00:46

I don't think she'd have a butler either - not that type of people (you can tell that just by virtue of the fact they were friends of ours in Zim and have invited us to see them )

ooo goody - think I've nearly talked DH into putting some petrol money aside for October to get and visit them

Really excited - haven't seen them for 5 1/2yrs (or spoken to either!(
