Finding out the history of a school

How do I find out details about a school?
I assumed (and hoped) that it can be researched online rather than having to actually go anywhere!

My usual google searches are coming up with nothing and I don't know where else to look.

Its a primary school in Hackney I am looking for. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

What sort of history are you after? Recent or historical, iykwim!

It would be handy though, if it was the primary school that I went to, because I was there the first day it opened! Grin I have tons of info about the earliest days of my school.

We didn't have any desks, for a start and floor in the hall wasn't finished! Grin

Things like when it was built and any other names it has been called or anything else the building has been used for (secondary schools, just girls/boys, any news of something that happened in the school)

DS has told me that some children died in the playground many years ago. Its funny how every single school have some sort of story like that.

My primary school (Burbage) had a ghost in the room on the roof as a pupil fell from the roof and was killed when she landed on the spikes. I reckon all schools have a story like that, bet none are true though!

Oh, that's that's a bit spooky!

Dunno though. What have you Googled so far?

see if the local newspaper has an online archive. Ditto local history society if one exists.

It was a school in London Borough of Bexley. Rather not say exactly, but if you know the area we can work it out in code! Wink

What about searching on Facebook or Friends Reunited? They are sometimes a good source of info.

kid · 08/09/2010 20:33
