I'm thinking of enrolling DD (2 1/2) in the toddler gymnastics classes. Is anyone familiar with either Avondale in Surbiton or Heathrow Gymnastics (near Heathrow obviously -- not sure of the town)?

not local so not sure about what u mentioned but is she too old for tumble tots? i imagine its less structure and pressure for her at first.

like i said tho i could be wroing!!!!

She's a bit beyond tumble tots in ability, I think. Tumbletots also has some music clappy kind of time, which DD isn't at all interested in. And her coordination and desire to be challenged physiacally is quite good for her age. So tumble tots isn't really for her. I think proper gymnastics (for under 3s obviously) will provide a good foundation for her to go on into a sport she enjoys.

Both gyms have good long-term coaching programmes. Both my kids go to Heathrow, they started in 'Gymlets' which is 45-60mins (depending on age) of experiencing all the basics of gymnastics but they do it with loads of coloured props. My eldest started because she would climb on furniture and walls and leap off so I wanted her to learn how to land properly to avoid breaks. She is now an 'elite' (hate that word!) gymnast who trains 9hrs 45mins a week. If you want more research - look for English and Olympic team listings and then drill down to where the individual competitors have come from.

Try Tolworth Gym Club behind Tolworth Rec centre, I think they do sessions for the younger ones.

uwila,
dd1 (6yrs) goes to Heathrow gym, and loves it.

It is very professional (although I'm sure it's not quite so bad for 2 1/2 yr olds!!)it has great facilities (have you tried out the playgym there?)
and I think it is a great gym club.

May be a waiting list though as it is very popular.

hth.
