Im not sure but i think its permanent my dp's little bro did this a few years ago and his parents had to buy a new tv!

This isn't what you want to hear but I think you might have to buy a new one. Magnets can screw up televisions, VCRs, computers and cameras completely - keep them well away!

it will go back to normal in a couple of days! ds did this to ours and sent the picture green. Its ok now.

oh great!! thanks for help anyway. i think he`s learnt his lesson and be aware everyone that those kids large red magnets that you can get in elc etc are lethal.!!!!

Funnily enough I noticed our screen had a purple patch on it yesterday and coincidentally ds has had Geomag around these last few days, although he denies having touched the screen with it. Seems ok today

Blimey, how big a magnet was it?

My physics ain't great, but there is a credible sounding solution (for PC monitors at least) on this website . Read the little conversation thread under the main explanation for a few other tips which might be helpful.

Otherwise I'm afraid it's a new TV for you.

bambi06 · 26/08/2005 17:05

it was only one of those biggish red magnets you can buy from kids educatioanal catalogues /elc etc

wow! i never new magnets could do such things.... esp 'kids' ones... perhaps they should carry warnings... keep away from TVs etc!

lemonice · 26/08/2005 17:24

Do you have accidental damage on your insurance, if it's an expensive TV it would be worth claiming (depending on your excess)

bambi06 · 26/08/2005 18:07

phew..its back to normal after leaving it off for a while.. but i agree that childrens magnets should have warnings on them and it reminded me of earlier this year when our tv did the same thing but we couldnt work out why but hah i know now..
