How should I dispose of my old car battery?

Any ideas?

DH has gone off to work away for a few days and left the old car battery just outside the front door.

Isn't it highly dangerous?
Will they take it if I drive it to the dump?

Thers a place at out local tip to put them.

There is at our local tip as well. You can't put them into the skips though, so it might be as well to ring your local tip and ask if they have facilities to take it.

We have green recycle boxes that are collected by the council. We can leave them in there to be taken away.
