One-by-choicers: have you ever considered sterilisation?

We have an only by choice and we are all very happy. I just don't want any more children, we have thought about it an discussed but always come to the conclusion that we are just amazingly happy as we are. So I'm wondering if any other people with one by choice have considered sterilsation (for either of you) and what the GP said when/if you approached them about it?

We only have one child and DH has been 'done'. No problem from GP apart from long wait time, so we went private.

Thanks for the reply HSMM, we are seriously considering it but worried that we will get fobbed off with the old "you will probably want another one" line, especially as we are both under 30, but I don't want to have a contraceptive implant every three years.

DH refuses to consider a vasectomy. His argument is that he is too young (27) but basically he thinks I'll change my mind . I'm struggling with contraception at the moment, can't find anything to agree with me, so I have been thinking of sterilisation but everyone keeps telling me it's too final and risky etc...

We have one child by choice and my DH has had a vasectomy - he was only in his early 30s at the time too. We had a brief chat about it (certaily nothing too probing and definitely not judgemental). I rather gor the impression that him asking us was a just a box ticking exercise - I'm sure it was neither here nor there to him. Anyway, he said he totally respected that it was our choice and it was all done and dusted a fortnight later.

Yes, I was sterilised last year at 30, and I have an only, and I'm single!

I was referred straight away and though the consultant wasn't happy and tried to talk me out of it he agreed.

I've been pg twice since DD, one MC, one retmination and I told him it was clear from that I didn't want more children.

I've never regretted it for a second. It was totally the right choice for me.

My friends have one child by choice (as do we), and they decided for the husband to have a vasectomy. No problems from the GP at all in referring

Yes, as a one child only family by choice but also having been told it would be dangerous for me to be pregnant again, I am considering sterilisation. Or getting hubby to have vasectomy! He's not keen, but only because men are so over protective of their nether regions!

We too are a single child family. I asked the consultant to tie my tubes when I delivered dd, I loathed being pregnant and having had 9 mc's before she arrived, knew I wouldn't ever want to experience that again. consultant declined my request but said she'd do it six months after the birth. Six months to the day after I was back at the hospital and chatted to her. I had to bring dh with me the next time to sign the papers and made an appt. for a convenient date for the surgery. Three weeks before the date, she phoned me and said she was going to France to lecture for a year. We then left the country, so my tubes remain loose 8 years later.

Dh had teh chat with GP today, is off to have teh chat with hospital in a mnth and then will be snipped. I had teh pregnancy & C section, its his turn for abdominal discomfort.
