What's the highlight of your one child family day?

This is in response to the call for more positive, upbeat threads.

For me, the highlight is hot chocolate after trudging home in the cold from school. And yours is?

Mine is when me and DD 2.7 make dinner together each day, she just loves cooking and I love it when she "sneaks" a bit of the food very theatrically!

when the rampaging toddler decides he needs a cuddle, comes to me for one and turns his face into my neck to get as big a cuddle as possible - makes up for soo much!

Getting home with DD (and her friend) after school and DD asking me if I wanted a coffee, and preceding to make me a yummy latte using the coffee machine. Lovely.

I like the Saturday morning biiiig family cuddle too! My dd is 13 btw! I also like the cup of tea and, if I'm lucky, the bacon sarnie that comes with it!

Hm, today's was either DD deciding that she wasn't so very hungry that I had to go and make dinner rather than cuddling her on the sofa; or it might have been DH coming home to find us cookiing a curry together rather than squabbling about something.

One of ds's teacher saying something nice about him and me being able to tell him that night - without worrying about what another child would think.

For me, there are several highlights, each and every one child family day:

  • knowing that I've only got to cope with the washing and ironing generated by one child
  • knowing that when I empty the bookbag out after school I've only got to pay out for one lot of school meals/swimming lessons/school trips etc
  • knowing that I don't have spend the evening breaking up fights and mediating between warring siblings
  • knowing that I only have to do battle with getting one lot of homework done

and best of all

  • cuddling up with my son at the end of the day to watch TV, read or just spend time together (something we always do) and knowing that I don't have to spread myself around or that he has to vie for my time or attention.

staying up late on Friday and Saturday nights and watching telly in bed together, eating popcorn and watching dd fall asleep next to me. And biiiggg family cuddle in the morning!

Ooh - it's got to be snuggling up on the chair after bathtime. Big white fluffy towel wrapped round DS, Little Bear Stories on the TV, pretending to argue over who loves who more.

DD's bedtime - it goes on forever, as it can cos there's only one of her! DH or I or both of us put her in our bed, have several stories, turn off light, talk about our day and EVENTUALLY she falls asleep and we can enjoy what's left of the evening. Later we'll transfer her to her own bed though invariably she'll end up back in ours.

Bedtime stories, bathtime, snuggling up together for another ten mins in the morning, snuggling up together at night, eating, drinking, anything together really
