The One and Only TEA Room: Everyone Welcome (bring champagne and muffins please!)

Wow, we're on our third thread!!!
Previous (second) incarnation of the tea room.

A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

Cheers all!

mt!

mistlethrush · 28/01/2009 22:44

T42 at what!!! the hair or the thread...

thumbwitch · 28/01/2009 22:47

mistlethrush - I did see that thread and didn't bother to go on it because I knew someone else would have already said "Whaddya mean, babysit? He's their FATHER fgs!"

I gave up choir as well - but didn't mind that so much cos they kept picking rubbish music I wasn't so keen on!

Bocca - pmsl, I so wish that is what we were like! in our hearts and minds but not our bods, that is us. (mind you they wouldn't do that one either, too boring for the band players !)

thumbwitch · 28/01/2009 22:49

Two princes - we tried that at band but it got very boring for the band very quickly, same old riff repeated over and over. I ended up looking at songs in a very different way to how I started!

teafortwo · 28/01/2009 22:51

baby - no no no - spin doctors is not to be listened to on vinyl ... only to be listened to from a homemade tape sitting on a swing with one walkman headphone in your ear and the other in your best friend's ear who is on the swing beside you. You should both be reading from the same magazine and the text in question should be the problem pages of just seventeen you should only stop occasionally to discuss what is happening on Neighbours or Home and Away.

teafortwo · 28/01/2009 22:53

at thread!!!!!

And at perfect rock chick hair!!!!

teafortwo · 28/01/2009 22:57

I am of an age where some of our class were born in the 80s and the others in the 70s. Being of the 70s side was cooler in the 90s. We all wished we had been hippies with flowers in our hair.... but now I wish I was a 1980s babe it sounds so cool and young to me!!!

DontCallMeBaby · 28/01/2009 23:01

I've just realised that song has the line 'if you want to call me baby, just go ahead now' - it is the anti-me song!

One last song before bed - me and milk are crazy about this one right now!!!!!

I am trying to convince my sister to walk down the isle to it when she gets married this Spring - she isn't that keen though!!!!

UniS · 28/01/2009 23:07

NOOOOOO I;m not ever wearing a rara skirt again.

Or a black chunky knit skirt with a stripey jumper or ..... pick an 80s fashion nightmare and insert here. I was 16 in 1988. I had no money and no taste and my mother dressed me funny.

apologies to any one who went out and Karl hiassen in teh mistaken belief he was an american Fforde- he is infact an American Brookmyre. Whom i had muddled up with Fforde. sorry.

teafortwo · 28/01/2009 23:08

OH NO - See that is the great thing about tapes - if you notice a subtle thing that makes you realise you don't like the song anymore - just tape over... perhaps with a bit of Pulp or The Stones stolen from your Dad's vinyl collection!!!!!????!!!!!

thumbwitch · 28/01/2009 23:14

80s fashion nightmare - double V-neck batwing sparkly purple jumper with needle-thin belt in patent pink plastic WITH matchin patent pink stilettos.
Plus the upswept-at-the-sides with sparkly hair combs poodle perm.

Not me I hasten to add - I couldn't wear pink or stilettos to save my life!

mistlethrush · 28/01/2009 23:22

My hair would never comply with th e80's Adam Ant slicked back, short boots, etc etc etc.

16 in 1988. That would be good (now) !!!

RaRa skirt. Yes, can tick that box.

Hair - probably not quite long enough. THat's because it doesn't like growing long. It likes growing wide!!!!

teafortwo · 28/01/2009 23:31

Thumbwitch - I remember having a massive falling out with my Mum because she hadn't made my fringe into a sticky up enough rose - do you remember them - fringe roses? - Well that is what they were called in Essex.

Another word that makes me think of the eighties fashion nightmares..... shoulder pads!!!!!!!!

But we did have Madonna at her best
uk.youtube.com/watch?v=herI400Lu3s&feature=related

thumbwitch · 28/01/2009 23:58

oh yes - the double-V batwing nightmares jumpers quite frequently came fitted with shoulder pads too - I used to take them out cos my shoulders were too square for them - I looked like I had humps on each shoulder!

Oh I remember the fringe roses all right - didn't have a deliberate one of them though.. my fringe was just cut too short.

zazen · 28/01/2009 23:59

Yes Madonna was at her best - though i think she was younger than 32! - that clip beings back happy memories!

But would you look at her writhing, and trying to look foxy!! How hilarious is that?

Another thing I remember (in my dotage) is the eye shadow up to the bushy brows. Blue and pink combos, blobed on never blended, with eyeliner in a blue neon shade. How fabulous.

And those huge high high rising jeans that came up to your ribs.

Some of my classmates come to school with toothpaste over his nose like Adamant!

thumbwitch · 29/01/2009 00:05

zazen - yes! those high-rise jeans with extra material at the waist! oh god... and the neon pink and blue eyeshadow and you forgot that you could get mascara in shades of royal blue, purple and teal as well as eyeliner. People were told that blue eyeliner made them look "more awake", I seem to remember... silver eyeliner too...
and you couldl get tights in the same colours as the mascara, interesting colour combos that went on!

Anyone who doesn't remember this too well should watch Rita, Sue and Bob Too - it's a classic for early-mid 80s fashions!

zazen · 29/01/2009 00:19

Thumbwitch, I still have some of those clothes... huge belts are coming back now, though probably never in white, gathered into a too small buckle!
and leggings with longer tops over them...

Humm, now that I think about it I did wear leggings with a long tunic when I was preggo but in my defence, I never ever ever wore Dexys'midnight-runners erm... 'style' for want of a better word, dungarees (had to go to the loo too often! ).

daisy99divine · 29/01/2009 00:58

Ladies, it is late
but I have one final word for you

BANANARAMA

xx sleep tight

racingpiglovestwiglets · 29/01/2009 01:00

Hello!! Is anyone there?

I am trapped in the back of a truck in the bathroom

I'd really like to come out now!

My parking has gone awry and I am stuck!

Hallo! Hallo??!?

mellorsthegardenerofsorts · 29/01/2009 01:02

Heh there little RacingPig
Let me grasp you firmly in my manly hands and lift you out of the back of that truck

there there, snuggle up on this sofa and have a lovely twiglet to make you feel better

I'm off to tidy the kitchen, pick up all the bottles, fluff the cushions, turn off the music and the glitter balls and make some bread to prove in the oven overnight

and they think I don't do anything!

Nice try Mellors... pretending you did all the tidying and rescuing when really, it was my slow typing that made it look that way!

DaisyBoy happily trotted into nursery today - but perhaps that was because it wasn't me dropping him off but he spent most of yesterday asking where it was and when he was going!

happy days all lovely people!
