My mum got angry because I bought a garden hose

I use those empty 4 pint milk cartons, wash them out, and fill them with water to water the plants in the garden and keep them stocked up outside. However, lately, the weight of them is causing my back to hurt, so I decided to spend £50 on a garden hose with the mixer tap connector. My mum went crazy. She said, "Why on earth spend £50 on a hose where you hate living"? I said, "Well, if I ever get the chance to get out of here I can take it with me". And on and on she went.
I have to look after my joints at the end of the day. She can't look after the plants as her back is really bad.
Why do I keep messing up? Surely I've done no wrong? 😭 I just don't know what's happening to me lately.

What on earth has it got to do with your mother what you spend your money on and how you water your plants? She has no right to 'go on' at you - you're an autonomous adult - tell her that and walk away if she does it again.

You haven’t messed up, you’ve bought something that you wanted to buy. That’s a completely normal thing to do.

The reaction of your mother is the only wrong thing in this situation.

Unless she is subsidising you, what you spend your money on is none of her business. Neither have you done anything wrong. Tell her to butt out.

Garden hoses aren't fixed to a house. And even if you moved to a place without a garden, you could always sell it.
