dd got bitten twice today at nusery !

When I picked dd2 up tonight she has a red wrist and a very sore nose !
another child had bitten her 1st on the nose where you can see teeth marks and it drew blood and then on her wrist when she tried to push the other baby away.
I am very upset as it looks very sore and painful.
The children in her room are aged up to 18mnths is it normal for babies to bite each other?
I am also concered that it may happen again.

Unfortunately yes, it is quite normal for some children to go through a phase of biting. The nursery should have a policy of how they handle persistent biters.

Poor dd2 .

I was the manager of a nursery and am now a childminder and im sorry to say but this is a regular thing. Although nurseries do watch the children it is not always possible to stop things like this happening. Were you told about the bite? Just remember that you dont know what happened prior to the bite ie could your dd have been fighting with the biter over a toy etc... Im sure the nursery will keep a closer eye on things now but i can assure you, much to your horror, it wont be long till you get told dd has biten another child. My son was bit once and i was very upset by it but within a couple of weeks i was being told he had done the biting. It is a phase all children go through without exception.

You probably won't like this, but it is very normal.

When DS1 was at nursery his little group went through a phase of biting each other. It lasted about 6 months, they were all as bad as each other unfortunately! The staff would do what they could to enforce it as bad behaviour, giving lots of hugs to the bitten child and stern words to the biter!

What you need to look out for is your dd biting back. Hope she feels (and looks) better soon.

the important thing is the nursery staff are aware and keeping an eye out for it and if I were you I would let the other mother know you understand how difficult it is to have a biter

Very normal and will happen again. I have an ex biter.

The nursery wouldn't divulge who the biter was aparently this is their policy.
I was told that my dd was playing on the floor when she was bitten, she has an older sister so is moe than used to having toys taken away from her and never complains at home so I doubt she was fighting for a toy as she is so laid back its unbeleivable.

My dd was bitten twice,same arm 2 different children pn the same day and then again a few weeks later.

As long as the nursery expalin what they do to explain (as best they can to 2 yr olds) that it is wrong - then it seems like another phase out to test us as Mums!

Help my son 22mths old has bitten on his last three occasions at playschool he has been corrected on each occasion but I am a wreck collecting him and have temporarily taken him out as I dont want him to continue bitting. Has anyone any tips to end this phase.

Not really - my DD has often been the victim of a biter though - our nursery usually say they are helping the parents to deal with it. (Which is fine, btw, because lots of kids do this). Often if the child is particularly aggressive the nursery get other help/psychologist type help in to observe behaviour.

Have your nursery not offered any insights?

They have been keeping a close eye on him and have corrected him on each occasion they feel it will pass and are not overly concerned but I just wish we could do more to end the pattern.
