I know the title of this thread doesn't make much good sense but I'm feeling very cross! Dh took dd into nursery today with a bottle of sun protection cream as we were new to this nursery this year and I wasn't sure if they provided cream or not. Dh made a thing about telling the owner it was in dd's lunchbox when he dropped her off.
I picked her up this afty and it wasn't til I got home and indoors that I saw dd's arms, cheeks and scalp were pink. I asked her if she'd had any lotion on today and she said 'no'. I rang the nursery and the owner admitted dd hadn't had any lotion on but 'they'd only been outside for a little while' - despite me knowing that they'd played out twice and had their afternoon drinks outside too. She also said 'and we were in the shade'. When I said dd's arms were pink she said 'well maybe her arms weren't in the shade'. FFS!!! It's not like dd has arms like Mr Tickle or something! Owner blithered on 'we're very conscious about sun-safety here; we never go out between 12 and 2 on hot days and the children have to wear hats...' which is clearly nonsense. I told her the whole point I packed lotion for dd was that she HAS to have it on in the sun as she's so fair (but doesn't every child?!!) and she just said 'oh yes she must be, if she burned that quickly'. silly cow!
