Dd3 started at her little nursery today and loved - refused to leave when she was due to be picked up - which is obvioulsy very positive . We are happy with it too, but I ma just curious as to what people think about the price. She is there from 8 till 4.30, but we are charged for the full day - which is fair enough I think. She gets morning snack, cooked lunch and afternoon tea, 7 3-5 year old in each room, and it costs £167.10 per week. is this reasonable? I only ask as the other two dc's were at state nurseries which was free.

We're in the south west, and private nurseries here are about £50 a day for under 2's.

Lionstar · 02/06/2010 16:35

My DS is starting nursery in aug and we will be paying £34 a day. It's £17 per session. Only going for 2 days so not that bad.
We are in Lancashire.
Can't believe some of those prices.

Juneybean, please remember that you cannot charge 'top-ups' for 15 FREE hours. It voilates the Code of practice 2006, sections 6.1, 13.5, annex B2. This code relates to "The Free Entitlement Regulations" 2008, together with section 7 of the childcare Act 2006 which govern the free entitlement.

Daddy10, I think the 'top-ups' referred to by juneybean are for the hours of the session not covered by the NEG, i.e. anything over the 15 hours a week, or 12.5 in most areas still.

we are paying £70 a day and nappies not even included. £167 a week sounds very reasonable.

gettingtogrips · 23/07/2010 21:58

We pay £50 a day, I thought that was good considering others in the area (SE) are £67.

£70 a day???? Good grief.

Ours is £32 including nappies, wipes and milk. Goes down to £30 at aged 2. Is lovely small private day nursery.
