Settling in at nursery, usual process?

DS (15 months) will start attending nursery 2 days per week next month.
They have suggested we visit 2 days before he starts, 1 hour 1st day (I will stay) and 2 hours 2nd day (1 hour both of us and then leave him for an hour).
Is this fairly typical for settling in process at nursery? It doesn't sound a lot to me but I like the feel of the nursery and trust they are far more experienced than me (and my PFB!) in these matters.

in my very very limited experience this sounds pretty typical - i.e. it is more or less what all three nurseries that I considered for our daughter suggested.

DS started nursery 2 weeks ago, he's 2 and goes 2 days a week.
For his 'settling in' we did one hour with me there a week before he started. After 15minutes I felt like a complete spare part so one of the girls took my mobile number then I came home! (we only live across the road from the nursery)
Then a couple of days before he started he went for an hour on his own.

On his first day he cried and cried when we left him then settled perfectly once distracted.
Last week he clung on to me and cried but again, he was fine after about 10minutes once we left. Yet the next day he walked off and had to be reminded by one of the girls to say bye to me!
Fickle little creature!

Personally I don't think they can be 'settled in' in a couple of hourly sessions, I think they just need it to be able to recognise the setting but the actual settling in happens when they get used to the routine of actually going to nursery.

My daughter is starting two days a week next week, she has done her settling in as follows:

Day one - 1 hour, I sat in the staff room!
Day two - 1 hour, I went shopping for her birthday present, she didn't even notice I'd gone!!
Day three - 1 1/2 hours, over lunch she ate three mouthfuls! But was happy!
Tomorrow, same again for lunch, then she goes full time next Tuesday.

She seems happy there and hasn't cried once so far!

Sounds like it's a fairly standard settling in routine and I should be prepared for tears (his and probably mine too) but he'll be loving it in no time
