Constantly getting sticky eyes!

Hi there,
Since LO joined nursery in Feb he has had five bouts of sticky eye! I am getting a bit fed up with it, has anyone else experienced this? Am just wondering if it is most likely the nursery or an underlying problem with LO's eyes
Thanks x

sil is a nursery nurse, she said when a child starts nursery they get a few bouts of it, then they get immune.

Certainly was the case with both my two boys.

Its not the nursery's fault, its just a germ that children have to build up immunity to and they usually only come into contact with it in places where there are lots of other children.

Are you using drops etc when a bout occurs?

Thank you for your quick response. He last had sticky eye on the easter weekend and we had drops then by an emergency doc but our Gp usually gives us ointment. But we have ran out of the drops, was hoping it would clear up on its own but its been a week now. His eyes aren't red, they were crusty and now are yellowy at the tear ducts.

Its usually conjunctivitis that they catch at nursery, we've never been given ointment. I can't quite see how that would work. What you describe sounds like all the conjunctivitis my two had. But then I'm no doctor

Can you get something over the counter from a pharmacy thats open sunday? If you take the child for the pharmacist to look at?

Hey Kaycee I know certainly when my babies have had sticky eye, I have used (breastmilk but, also;) cooled camomile tea on a cottonwool pad (fresh one each eye) and it really, really helps clear it up.

It might be worth checking if other babies in the same room as your LO also are suffering. They may be re-infecting each other & also the toys will be infectious too. My DD suffered dreadfully with it when she first started nursery. One bout lasted almost two weeks (even with drops) as she had a bad cold too, & the mucous was running through her tearducts when she lay down. We limited her toys to just half a dozen of easily wipeable ones so we could disinfect each night.
