What does your DC smell of when they come home from nursery?

...my DS absolutely reeks of vanilla! It's so strong and I can smell it off his hair and clothes for ages. Even when you walk past the nursery you can smell it, it's not a horrible smell but just very strong- they must be pumping it through the air vents!

Are they all like that or is it just our nursery?

Dd smells of paint and the nasty soap they use to wash her hands with .

nappy sacs, that sort of perfumy smell, i used to hate it, but now i quite like it!

DS smells of perfume! I guess from getting cuddles from th nursery staff...

My DD has a very distinct nursery smell to her upon collection, but my husband doesn't notice it. I can smell in all over her, especially in her hair and always have to bath her to wash it away.

It isn't particularly offensive, I just don't like it, and can't really distinguish what it is.

Perfume and really strong washing powder. We use Ecover so we really notice the capstan full strength variety.

Dd smells fine when she gets back from nursery. Ds smells of institution when he comes back from school. I can't say exactly what it is either but it is horrible!

ds1 always stinks - not sure what of mainly cooking smells but also something not that nice. ds2 still in the baby room smells like his carers perfume, very nice just like her!

Dd used to come home smelling of custard creams, pencil sharpenings and a small whiff of butter.

This is funny. My little one smells so strongly not-of-home at the end of a nursery day. How they manage to make him smell so strongly of nursery I'll never know. I smell the same thing when I go into the building. The funny thing, Barcode Zebra, is that I think it is partly Ecover. We use it at home too but not in such strong quantities. I also like to bath him back to his normal smell, even though the nursery smell isn't exactly unpleasant

My daughter reeks after being at nursery all day. It's not an unpleasant smell, just distinctive. The closest thing I can describe it as is the smell of a hamster cage.

Ds1 use to smell very strongly of the wipes that they used at nursery. Ds2 used to reek of our nanny's perfume which I found worse - upset me that my baby smelt of someone else.

Purfume here too. I don't usually wear perfume so it is v noticable. I like it cos I know she's getting held/cuddled

I agree with missmapp - nappy bags and really strongly smelling ones at that - I really don't like the smell but it seems to linger

Funny you should mention the perfume thing, I manage a nursery and our uniform policy states no strong perfumes as it does upset some mums (but mainly due to cuddling small babies into strong perfume might cause skin rashes or trigger asthma for asthmatics. Nevr considered some parents would find it reassuring to know their little ones had lots of cuddles

Mine just smell of themselves. I've never noticed any of the staff using perfume (not sure whether that's a policy or just coincidence).

I would hate the vanilla smell. I would mention that TBH.

My DS has a general nursery smell, a little bit of the smell of the baby wipes they use. He only goes 2 days a week but always the same smell!

Nursery staff have however asked me what my perfume is once as DS was smelling of it one day!

We name the smell 'nursery' because it's distinct yet unidentifiable. Combination of wipes/perfume/washing powder I think.

The children I care for go home smelling of:

lavender if they fell over
homemade bread - if they helped in the kitchen
playdoh with exotic smells (courtesy of MN)
outside - because they love it so much
