HELP - Nursery or Childminders in Kew

I'm due to go back to work in September and am trying to sort childcare for my DD. I only know of two places in Kew that take babies (she'll be 12 months) - Asquith and Montys. Please do you know of any other child care places? Thanks

I think the Asquith is the one attached to Kew Riverside. Thanks lsa2. Did your friend go for it in the end?

I've heard Montys is good. There is an Asquith in Richmond (next to Marshgate primary school) on Queen's Road. I've heard bad things about it. I know of 2 others in Richmond (not far from Kew) which are good: Grena Road Nursery & King's Road. There is also Kew Giggles which is a childminder/nursery in 2 locations - one near Kew Green and one near Kew Retail Park. Both excellent.

lsa2 - you've been a great help. I went to Asquith to check it out and I didn't like it. They kept calling me to come for a repeat visit but I didn't feel comfortable with them. Castlesinair (cool name), been to Montys and I liked it. Before I commit to it, just wanted to know what my options were. Will check Grena and Kew Giggles. Really appreciate the help from both of you. DD thanks you as well

Hi everyone, I'm sorry to revive this thread, but I, too am wondering about day care options in Kew, as close as possible to Kew Green. I am going to see the Asquith tomorrow (I was surprised that they had openings....now I know why, perhaps). I've emailed Giggles, and taken note of the Grena Road and Kings Road Nurseries.

In addition to full blown nurseries, does anyone know of any child minders in the area? I'm fairly new to the UK, and only know of the OFSTED search engine. It's frusrtating and seems incomplete...my neighbor is a childminder and OFSTED registerd and isn't listed. Word of mouth seems to work so much better.

Thanks in advance for any info you all can give!

Hi All!

I noticed this thread was started almost a year ago so a current reply was needed!

I am a mother of a child at Asquith's Kew nursery and I have to say my dd loves it there. It has recently had a refurb so it looks fabulous!

I hope you enjoy your visit!

Hi - I've also just started looking into childcare in the Kew area so read this thread with interest. My daughter is nearly seven months old but will be 11 months when I return to work. I wondered how you got on with the different options?? I am still trying to work out whether to go for a nursery or child minder. Visited Grena Road nursery today which was my first port of call, Montys is booked up for a while so that's out of the equation. Any advice / recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

There are some playgroups in Kew which is a great way to meet childminders / nannies and to see how they are with children. Barn Church on Atwood Avenue has one on Mondays, St Winefride's on Leybourne Park on Tuesdays, both from 930 until about 11 I think. The council runs a website with lists of childminders at richmond.gov.uk/ but I have found it pretty unhelpful

Just had to add to this thread, to give my experience. I have heard on good authority that the older rooms at Kew Day Nursery (Asquith) are good, BUT we found the baby room shocking last week.

Took my child out of there - uncaring atmosphere, and we saw with horror a ratio of 6 or 7 babies to 1 carer for the hour we were there! Shudder to think of it

Has anyone thought of using a childminder? Don't know about the availability in this area but it's worth a try.

There is a childminder list available from Richmond FIS which wasn't great. Kew Giggles' childminders really appealed but they were full. Going down the nanny route now, ouch...

Hi

I'm based in Kew but went a bit further afield for childcare so my DS goes to Working Mums in Mortlake. He's been there since he was 10 months and is now 2.6. He absolutely loves it and I've no complaints about it at all and think they do a wonderful job.

When I was looking around I also looked at Montys and Kew Giggles. Liked both of them but they didn't have space at the time I was looking (I was a bit last minute!) but I have had no regrets about sending DS to Working Mums at all. I wasn't so keen on Asquith or Grena Road but that could just be because they were among the first places I looked at and I was determined not to like any of them as I didn't want to go back to work Grin!

That's great Kisscuddle, thankyou. I am having a look around working mums in the morning. Have heard very good things about Kew Giggles but they are just not returning my calls and e-mails. I likes asquiths but reading this page has put me off a bit. i thought Grena Road was terrible !

I had an excellent experience at Asquith Kew with my daughter from April to November. Their admin was a bit chaotic but the level of care and the kindness they showed my little girl (who was 10m when she went) was second to none.

I need to find a nursery or childminder from sept. My dd will be 12 months. But I'm finding it so hard, I would have expected it to be easier in this area, perhaps most people have nannies! I went to montys but didn't like it. It seemed so cramped and small for so many children and they never seem very accommodating on the phone. But I have also heard good things about it. I liked the look of the 2 asquiths but don't know anyone with a baby in either. I'm undecided about grena rd and kings rd. And kew giggles aren't returning my calls or emails either. Similarly I don't really want to leave her or go back to work but it's not really an option so I need to find somewhere I'm happy with. It's really stressing me out!

kew day nursery has a new manager and duputy and is great and they have just had their ofstead last week which was rated as good well deserved

I'm really surprised that you didn't like Montys as my daughter has just started there and absolutely loves it. We've been recommending it to everyone!! They are so caring and I feel really relaxed sending her there. I am also due back at work soon and it is really stressing me out finding places for her for the other days as because Montys is so popular it has a really long waiting list. Didn't like grena road or kings either so now trying to find out about nanny shares.

i also have to update you on kew day nursery, my children are there and they love it, the staff do an amazing job.
the baby room is 2nd to none, the staff will listen to any worries you have and call you on a regular basis through the day if you want them to (i know im over the top, but i dont ask them to call me any more!)
my older one has started to sound out letters and read since being at the nursery, they are taken on local trips all the time.
i went to grena rd and the children were all crying and montys wouldnt let me in when i turned up to look around (worrying) but i just turned up without an appointment at kew and they still showed me round, i decided nothing to hide is a good thing.

dont know whats gone on before, but i would recomend kew to any one.

need to put your name on a waiting list for the asquith in kew though, become quite popular.

I must add to the praise for Kew Day Nursery (by Riverside school) - my ds adores it, the staff are amazing, it's a highly stimulating environment - especially physically as and they've loads of space both indoors and outdoors, which isn't always the case in the area. My ds is delighted to go there in the morning and blissfully (for us both!) worn out by the evening when I pick him up. I heard negative rumours when I was first looking into it a year or so ago and threads like this added weight to those, so I do feel the need to quash these by saying how great I think it is, or is now - perhaps it went through a bad patch, but in my opinion is more than over it. Highly recommended!

I intrestingly read the thread and find it amazing that 2 years and the lack of good childcare in Kew area is poor.
I was hoping to have a nanny share. I am currently looking for a nanny and will be happy to find someone to share.
My daughter will be 9 months in January, and I am looking for 2 days a week with an optiong for more - I am flexiable.
