Right OK so how much has everyone's nursery fees gone up by this year?

We have just had a letter from nursery saying that in the face of the 0.5% interest rates, and my 1% pay rise, they are putting their fees up 5% this year and we should think ourselves bloody lucky as that's less than the 'national average' increase

So I thought I'd do a little MN average poll. How much has your nursery fee gone up %wise???

I think the wiltedrose thing was rather sad (as well as very annoying) - there seemed to be quite a lot of pleading for money going on - which is not what mumsnet is about - whether it's someone whose kind of what they say they are or a hairy handed truck driver called Dave! I've no idea which it was in this case - but either way it's not a happy name!

Yes thora is dead - but you've resurrected her duvet so who know's what next?

Actually 'ThoraHirdstolemyduvet' has a certain ring to it...

Quiltedrose · 05/03/2009 20:27

NL thanks for that...the reason I packed in MN before was just because I was doing exactly what I'm doing now, which is flipping from thread to thread and forgetting to do stuff like eat or pee

Northernlurker · 05/03/2009 20:30

Yes and look how useful mumsnet is - you only asked about fees and you've got that plus name suggestions, some back history and the information that Thora Hird (may she rest in peace) is in fact dead!

I'll further 'help' by instructing you to go eat and pee!

Re: fees. I manage a nursery. Think ours will go up by 2% at most (depends on how much sway i have with owner!). Bit of a bum though as minimum wage went up about 8% i think (don't qoute me on it!) so cost has to be absorbed. Don't get me wrong he does make money but not the huge amount people think!

3.3%

DS's nursery has gone up by 9.6% I must say I am still somewhat stunned, in denial and hoping that if I ignore the letter the rise may never happen

elvislives · 23/03/2009 18:23

We've been lucky then. Had a letter to say because of the credit crunch fees will not be going up this year.

leeloo1 · 30/03/2009 22:28

Fees where I was going to send DS have gone up from £55 to £60 per day and from £225 to £250 per week... not sure what percentage that is, but makes me even more pleased i decided to quit work and become a childminder.

Am lucky. My nursery have just announced first increase in the 2 years DD has been going. All rates are going up £1 a day which I feel is reasonable. 2 friends (at different places)have been hit hard when theirs went up by £10 a day (approx 30%) and have 5 day care. One of these has been particularly badly hit as DD2 was due to start in sept. Both are switching nurseries. Friend with 2 sad about this as DD1 loves it and it is at work so convenient but an increase this big would cost more than she earns.
