i could really do with some advice here...i'm just wondering how much notice everyone else has to give at their nursery?

I started a new job last week, and the kids started at nursery. yesterday dp and i decided to split up. my plan is to go and stay with my mum until i find a place of my own, however she lives an hour away, i dont drive. notice for my job is no problem, just have give one weeks notice. however ive got a horrible feeling that nursery will want one months notice. so i have two choices...either stay here with now ex-dp for a month so i can work at my job to get childcare paid by tax credits, or go to my mums anyway, and spend all (in fact i suspect more than) my income support for the next month on paying nursery even though kids not even there...

anyone had any experience of a sympathetic nursery in this situation?

experiences and advise please?!...........

We're on 1 month's notice but it has to be worth a try. I guess it depends on how sympathetic they feel and on whether they have a waiting list.

thanks for the quick reply!

forgot to say, i intend to live close to my mum, so not worth trying to hold the place open either...

hmm, has anyone successfully agranged to pay holiday rate for the notice period if the child hasnt actually attended?

Notice period should be stated in your nursery contract. Usually they are 1 month (although DD's previous one was 2 months!) but if the nursery have long waiting list they might give you reduced rate/holiday rate. It's worth asking anyway!
