Does anyone know of any good nurseries in Hither Green?

Head Start, between Lewisham and Blackheath, very good.

Hi there,

I'm thinking of sending my son to Head Start in Lewisham.

Please can you tell me more about its reputation?

Thank you.

Headstart is good - DD was there from Sept to Nov when a space became available at Genesis in Lee, which was our first choice Nursery but were unable to get a space for Sept 08. Our 15 month old DD has been at Genesis now since November & I cannot speak highly enough of it. DD settled in so well & really quickly. Staff are lovely. The rooms are fairly small (but cosy) & numbers low & this seems to suit DD better than the larger rooms & higher numbers of Headstart. I would suggest you ring & ask re waiting lists though as we struggled with getting a space even though we were on 3 waiting lists for 10 months (though might be a little easier now with current economic climate).

Thanks so much. That's really helpful. Is there anything you'd be cautious about at Head Start?

Headstart & Genesis have pretty similar standard of ofsted report & I have heard equally good reports of both. Genesis suits our DD better, but there are plenty of happy kids (& parents) at Headstart. With hindsight, & of course this is just my personal opinion, I think the baby room caters for too wide an age group, so there could be babies from 3 months in the same room as babies of 14 or 15 months. Would be very difficult to get an activity going for 12 kids that includes all those age groups. Another nursery we liked, though may be too out of the way for you, is Teddies Nursery in Greenwich. That had an 18 month waiting list when we visited though !!
