Any nursery workers / managers out there - I have a question about transferring funding!

Hello. My son attends a nursery setting within Surrey County Council, and is soon leaving and joining another setting within Surrey County Council. We have given the correct notice to the original nursery. He received the working parent entitlement of 30 funded hours. He is moving part way through the term . Should the original setting be able to transfer his funding across to the new setting? I'm struggling to find out online - and notice it might be different per borough?

I think it’s at the discretion of the nursery if the place is terminated mid term as that is how the funding is allocated.

Depends on your LA and the maybe the reason you are moving. Some LAs allow the funding to follow the child, some won't let you transfer mid-term unless there are significant circumstances.
The nursery may still agree to transfer the funding themselves directly to the new nursery.

Thank you - I'm really surprised at that - so does that mean if they don't agree to transfer the funding (I mean why would they if they don't have to!) does that mean they're then claiming funding for a child who they aren't looking after? Thanks

Yes funding is allocated termly. If you start somewhere then your funding is paid to the setting for term. Its a way of streamlining a very chaotic system!

If it's mid term then yes. Places/funding is done on a termly basis, presumably you signed a parent declaration confirming your hours this term?

Thanks for your reply! I spoke to childcare services who said if email Surrey county council they'll transfer funding across - it sounds quite wishy washy and something they can potentially do but ideally wouldn't as sounds very chaotic like you say!

thanks for your reply - I did, but nothing on specific hours it seems - and I've emailed Surrey to ask to transfer as the childcare hotline said I could. Does that sound right?
