Gift for children?

Hi I wasn't sure where to post this so went with nurseries! I'm currently working in the office of a nursery/creche/preschool. I've been covering maternity leave and the other admin person is back in a few weeks so I'll be leaving. I don't work directly with the children but I greet them every day, we chat in the reception area before they go in and if I have to go into the room for anything the kids will have and hi five me, and going home etc. I have a lot of contact with parents and have met some lovely families, and at end of school year (were only open term times), Christmas and valentines day I was very kindly given presents from the children. Now that I'm leaving I'd love to get a little something for the children back but I'm not sure if this is appropriate? We also have 60 children aged 2-5 so I'd be looking for something affordable especially since I don't currently have another job to go to! A lot of our families are from underprivileged areas and children don't have access to basic things like books so I was thinking about maybe scouring a few charity shops for good condition books and writing a little message inside each one, would this be weird though to gift them something from a charity shop?!
Any other suggestions welcome!
Thanks

I’d just buy some books for the Nursery. You will find book sets quite cheaply at The Works or Books to Door.
Alternatively you could buy some wooden puzzles or activity toys. Melissa and Doug toys and puzzles are good.
I wouldn’t gift second hand books or give individual gifts though.

Make a lovely card to be displayed at nursery and some books for nursery.

Thank you, we have quite a lot of things at the nursery as we get good funding but a lot of the children don't have anything at home which is why I wanted to buy something they could take home.
