Registration Fees

We’re in the process of signing our daughter up to a nursery, but there trying to charge £130 registration fee. This apparently covers uniform and admin. According to the GOV website, I’ve read that settings cannot charge this. Surely, uniforms are also optional.

I will add that when I visited, NONE of the children were wearing a uniform!

They are also asking for a £100 deposit. We are only using funded hours and will be paying for consumables as a separate charge.

It doesn’t seem right to me- can anyone shed any light?!

If you’re only using funding then no, they are not allowed to charge registration fees. They can charge a deposit but it must be returned to you in a reasonable timeframe

Deposits hold the place surely? We pay 500£ to hold the place then get 250 back when we start

the other 250 is held until we leave to ensure we give the correct 2 months notice and don’t just disappear and leave them with an empty space.

If you are only receiving funded hours, they shouldn't charge registration fees or non-refundable deposits.

They can charge a reasonable deposit if they refund it when you take up the place.
