30 hours funding advice

User121991 · 28/10/2025 10:40

My child attends a kids planet nursery, in which he attends 1.5 days a week. The full day is 10.5 hours (he only attends 8 hours this day) and half day is 5. So he attends 15.5 hours all year round. The nursery he attends says the do stretched funded hours.. I was under the impression that ment he was entitled to 22 hours a week over the year. His nursery have said he only gets 11 hours as they stretch the 15 hours he attends all year round. So there is no way he will ever be able to attend the funded hours unless he attends term time only, is this correct?

Every nursery applies the funding differently.

It's correct if that is their funding policy yes.

They obviously set the number of funded hours they offer each day. They are well withing their rights to do so. I would advise that you read their fee structure. I'm sure it will all be in there

The issue seems to be they say he gets 15hrs, but you think it should be 30, rather than the Stretching?

Did you give them a code for the 30 hour entitlement?

If he is the term after 3rd birthday they can still get universal 15 hours or the extended 30 hours. Nurseries can only claim for what is being used so if he isn’t doing 22 hours a week then they will only be able to claim what is actually used. You say he’s only doing 15.5 hours a week so depending on their funded hours he may not be doing enough hours to claim for 30. Many nurseries do stretched so 11 hours will be normal based on 15 hours term time.

If you wish to claim for 30 hour (22 stretched) you will need to get an eligibility code to them before the end of term ready for January and also look at adding an extra day so you will be using more hours of the entitlement.

It will be best to speak with your nursery manager though to clarify this as funding is applied differently in different nurseries.
